Jordan Peele Talks About the Absent Character in NOPE and the Possibility of a Sequel

Jordan Peele released his third film this summer with the blockbuster thriller, Nope. The movie had fans running to theatres to see what the director had in store, as his first two films, Get Out and Us, were big hits in the box office. But while this film got fans talking just like the movies that came before it, it also had fans speculating on theories and meanings behind parts of the film that proved to be mysterious in nature.

I saw the movie while at Comic-Con with some of our GeekTyrant crew, and we were all really into the movie, then were fairly perplexed by the ending. It really felt like the movie was going to go another way, and some of the story elements felt left very open-ended. But that may have been by design.

Fans have recently been discussing a mysterious character on the film’s IMDb page, listed as “Nobody,” played by actor Michael Busch.

Peele addressed the uncredited character, fan theories and the possibility for a sequel in an interview with The New York Times, hinting, “We’re not over telling all of these stories.”

“The story of that character has yet to be told, I can tell you that,” Peele said, referencing the IMDb credit. “Which is another frustrating way of saying, I’m glad people are paying attention. I do think they will get more answers on some of these things in the future. We’re not over telling all of these stories.”

Busch’s character “Nobody” does not appear in the final cut of “Nope,” but he is seen very briefly in the trailer, walking calmly against the current of a panicking crowd, which you can see below:

Discussing fans’ fascination with the character, Peele said: “People are doing a lot of interesting detective work.”

Earlier this month, “Nope” crossed $100 million at the domestic box office, marking Peele’s third feature film to achieve that benchmark. The film follows siblings O.J. (Daniel Kaluuya) and Emerald Hayworth (Keke Palmer) as they attempt to capture footage of a mysterious U.F.O. circling their family ranch. Steven Yeun and Brandon Perea also star. “Nope” is now available on VOD and is still playing in select theaters.
