Jon Watts Pitched His STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Series To Lucasfilm as GOONIES in STAR WARS

Last week during Star Wars Celebration, it was announced that Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts was developing a new Star Wars series titled Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and It was described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.”

In fact, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently talked about Watts’ pitch for the series and explained that “Jon Watts came to me, very much wanting to do a sort of Goonies in Star Wars.” That’s quite an interesting thought, and it also, in a way explains the title of the series, Skeleton Crew.

Kennedy went on to say: “Needless to say, I’m going to say yes. And so it’s just evolved out of that kind of enthusiasm in wanting to tell stories in this space.”

The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and they embark on a journey to find their way back home. Jude Law also stars in the series, but we don’t know what kind of role he’ll be playing.

It was also explained at the event that even though the series is about kids, this isn’t going to be a kid’s show. Watts said: “It stars four kids, but it’s not a kids show.” The adventure that they find themselves on is going to be an intense and dark one.

Dave Filoni joked that they chopped people’s heads off in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, saying: “It’s as much of a kids’ show as Clone Wars. And I’m like, we cut people’s heads off in Clone Wars, so I’m not sure that’s the best measure.”

Watts added: “We liked the idea of using kids to give you a different perspective and see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes.”

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will stream 2023 on Disney+.
