Jim Carrey “Sickened” By “Spineless” Hollywood For Will Smith Standing Ovation at The Oscars

It’s really a shame how the Oscars were completely overshadowed by Will Smith’s actions. It’s really all anyone is talking about. It’s like nothing else happened that night.

Some of the talk I’ve been seeing revolves around the reaction of everyone in attendance at the Oscars and how Will Smith received a standing ovation after just assaulting Chris Rock on stage. Now, Jim Carrey is calling Hollywood out on that aspect of the night and slams them for being “spinless”. In an interview with CBS’ Gayle King (via HuffPost), he said:

“I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation. Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”

Carrey goes on to say that he thinks Smith “should’ve been” escorted out of the ceremony after he slapped Rock. When it was brought up that Chris Rock declined to file a police report about the incident, Carrey claimed that the only reason was because the comedian “didn’t want the hassle.” He added:

“I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be ubiquitous. That insult is gonna last a very long time. If you want to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter [that’s fine]. But you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.

“[The slap] came out of nowhere because Will has something going on inside him that’s frustrated. I wish him the best. I have nothing against Will Smith. He’s done great things, but that was not a good moment. It cast a shadow over everyone’s shining moment last night…It was a selfish moment.”

Smith has since issued an apology and the Academy is in the process of figuring out how to handle the situation and what consequences Smith should face.

What do you all think about Carrey’s comments on the situation?
