There were a good amount of films released in theaters this past weekend. Movies such as Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, Mark Wahlberg‘s Joe Bell, and Nicolas Cage’s Pig. I don’t know what you have and haven’t seen yet, but I have to suggest that you go out and see Pig when you get the chance! If you are trying to decide what movie you want to see in the near future, go see Pig!

Pig is seriously the best film in theaters right now and Nic Cage gives one hell of an incredible performance. If you’re a fan of Cage, you’re going to love this movie. If you’re not a fan of Cage, you’re still going to want to see this movie because it tells such a great story!

If you were to take this film at first look value, it seems like Cage embarks on a dangerous journey to find his missing truffle pig. Cage plays a truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness, and after his pig is stolen and he takes a beating, he must return to his past in Portland to look for his beloved foraging pig. This return to the past is a dark, brutal, and intense one.

I’ve previously said that the film looks like Cage’s John Wick movie. Well, after having seen it, I can tell you it is so much more than that! At the core, this film tells a beautiful story of losing love and the lengths that a person will go to hold on to that. Yes, it does sound like there’s a John Wick theme here, but this isn’t really a balls-to-the-wall action movie. This is a deep character study for the story’s main characters.

This film ended up going in a completely different direction than I was expecting and I loved it. While Cage was great throughout the entire movie and gave one of his best performances in years, there’s one scene in particular where his performance is top-notch. It’s a scene that involves him reuniting with a master chef that used to work under him. Damn, he gave a perfect performance in this movie!

This isn’t just another silly Nic Cage film where we watch him go a little crazy. There is real weight and emotion in this movie and with the characters that fill it, I loved every freakin’ minute of it.

The movie was written and directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, who is making his feature directorial debut with the film. This guy certainly has a bright future in filmmaking and I can’t wait to see what he ends up doing next! He’s a crazy talented filmmaker and storyteller and I loved the world that he created for this movie.

The film also stars Alex Wolff, Adam Arkin, and Gretchen Corbett, all of which give top-notch performances. Seriously, go see this movie! If you enjoy watching movies, this is one that you don’t want to miss!
