David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, The Suicide Squad, Dune) is among the new cast members to join the Dracula-story horror thriller Last Voyage of the Demeter.

He is joined by Game of ThronesLiam Cunningham, Aisling Franciosi, and creature feature actor Javier Botet, as well as previously cast Corey Hawkins, Jon Jon Briones (Ratched), Stefan Kapicic (Deadpool), Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, Martin Furulund, and Chris Walley.

The story centers around the ship that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker’s classic tale. In that novel, the Demeter washes up on the shores of England, tattered and broken, with one raving mad survivor. Schut’s script places the voyage center stage in a tale that is said to be reminiscent of the first Alien movie, in which a crew is slaughtered one-by-one by a mysterious passenger.

The film tells the tale of that journey, “in which the crew is slaughtered one by one by a mysterious passenger.” Zak Olkewicz (Bullet Train, Fear Street) wrote the most recent script.

Cunningham is playing the ship’s stately captain “while Dastmalchian is Wojchek, the Demeter’s first mate. Franciosi plays Anna, a stowaway, while Briones is the ship’s cook (on the menu, death). Kapicic and Nikolaeff are crew members who clearly won’t be on the return leg of the voyage.” Botet will portray Dracula.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark filmmaker André Øvredal is set to direct from a script by Bragi F. Schut and Zak Olkewicz, based on the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker.

Demeter began production this week in Berlin and will later move to Malta.
