Kevin Feige Says DOCTOR STRANGE 2 and CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 Will Still Make Sense if You Don’t Watch WANDAVISION

Fans of the MCU have been excitedly devouring the series WandaVision on Disney+ for the last several weeks. The story has taken us down the path of Wanda Maximoff in the weeks after Avengers: Endgame, and has brought us up to speed on the character Monica Rambeau, who we first met as a child in the ‘90s set Captain Marvel. The word is that this series will lead right into the events of the sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda will be heavily involved in the story.

But MCU President Kevin Feige wants movie fans to know that even if you haven’t seen the series WandaVision, you will still be able to understand Doctor Strange 2, as well as the Captain Marvel sequel. In a recent Television Critics’ Association press tour, Cinema Blend says Feige clarified:

“So there were lots of conversations with [director] Sam Raimi and [writer] Michael Waldron, and the entire Doctor Strange team, that this movie needs to work for people who watched WandaVision, but more importantly, needs to work for people who didn’t, who maybe Endgame was the last time they saw Wanda, or one of the earlier movies. Or maybe she’s a character they’re meeting for the first time.”

And as for Teyonah Parris‘s character Monica Rambeau, who will reprise her role in Captain Marvel 2, Feige also confirmed:

“Well, I worry about everything all the time. My job is to worry about everything. One thing I don’t worry about is more Teyonah Parris. I think that’s always a good thing. But it is very similar to movie-to-movie, honestly. We try to make the stories unfold in a way that if you are following along and have seen what has preceded it, you’ll be right up to speed. And more importantly, if you haven’t, you’ll be up to speed.”

I can’t imagine not having watched WandaVision or any of the Marvel properties that are interwoven through the storyline, but it is a smart move for Feige to make sure that each of these puzzle piece movies and series stand alone as well as together. It makes sure not to isolate any audience member, and get the most fandom out of each project.

If you haven’t yet, you can catch up on WandaVision on Disney+. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on March 24, 2022, and Captain Marvel II arrives on November 11, 2022.
