THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Showrunner Teases a “Make or Break Moment” For Sam Wilson

The release of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is fast approaching and I for one am super excited about what this series is going to deliver. It will give Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes the opportunity to really shine in the MCU.

While we’ve seen these characters evolve over the years in the MCU films, this series is going to put the focus on them as a mismatched pair of military vets and former Captain America teammates “who team up for a global adventure that will test their survival skills — as well as their patience.”

The showrunner of the series, Malcolm Spellman, recently explained that worked with the actors closely to shape scenes and dialogue, which also helped shape the series. In an interview with Games Radar, he teased that led to a make or break moment from Sam Wilson in the story:

“These guys have already written entire mythologies and backstories with emotional and psychological dimensions to these characters that they show up with. And now, with six hours, we get to bring it to life. Sebastian is excellent at wearing all that trauma on his sleeve in moments of silence, as Bucky’s gone from one war to the next. And there’s a huge, huge moment for Sam’s character, where it’s basically make or break for him.”

He went on to talk about working with Mackie on this particular moment, saying:

“I was on the phone with Anthony for hours going through this moment, line by line, in the most positive collaboration. When it’s like that, there’s nothing better, because the MCU at that moment becomes as real as our world. Because Anthony knows what this character is going to do in that world. And the truth of it that we’re creating: you feel it. He crushed it!”

It’ll be interesting to see what exactly happens in this “make or break” moment. There’s still so much that we don’t know about this Marvel series, but it also sees the return of Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, Emily Van Camp as Sharon Carter, a.k.a Agent 13, as well as newcomer Wyatt Russell as John Walker, a.k.a. U.S. Agent.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is directed by Kari Skogland, and Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. The series will premiere on Disney+ on March 19th, 2021.
