The Matrix franchise fans are pretty excited about the upcoming fourth film in the franchise. It’s actually supposed to be released later this year both in theaters and on HBO Max.
Well, it looks like we might know what the title of Matrix 4 will be thanks to a photo that the film’s hairstylist Shunika Terry shared showing a gift given to the production’s crew when filming wrapped. That gift features the title The Matrix Resurrections.
The title fits right in with the titles of the other sequels, which includes The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. It also fits the original trilogy’s messianic theme, with Neo a.k.a. “the One” being seen as a Christ-like figure.
Keanu Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity both died in the last film that was made, so with them coming back, Resurrections seems like an appropriate title.
Reeves and Moss are joined by Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who is taking on a lead role that is rumored to be a young version of Morpheus. Jada Pinkett Smith is coming back in the role of Niobe, while Jessica Henwick and Neil Patrick Harris have also been cast. Harris might end up playing the villain in the story. MIndhunter star Jonathan Groff is also a part of the cast.
We still have no details on the story, but I’m excited to see what it will be! Lana Wachowski is directing the film and it’s currently scheduled for release on December 22, 2021.
