Xbox Series X Consistently Hits 60 FPS with Backwards Compatibility

One of the features of the Xbox Series X that I’m really hyped for is backwards compatibility. Well apparently, that’s definitely something to get excited for. The team over at Digital Foundry got an Xbox Series X and wanted to play around with it.

The catch is that there are currently no Xbox Series X games available to play. Well, that meant that the guys could run the backwards compatibility through the paces and fans should get excited. All of the games tested, typically ones that are very demanding, hit 60FPS and while some titles didn’t always maintain 60FPS, they all seemed to stay between 50-60. This is at a mix of 4K and 1080p.

So, in short, the Series X will be amazing for many games from previous generations. Now, it should be noted that backwards compatibility cannot take full advantage of the Xbox Velocity Architecture, which is probably why we don’t see a constant 60FPS across all older games.

Another thing they tested was the helpfulness of the SSD. Using Final Fantasy XV, they found that load times dropped considerably on the custom NVMe SSD being used. Instead of taking almost a full minute to load, the Series X could load a map in the game in under 12 seconds. That’s a dramatic difference.

There’s still more to see, but so far, the Series X is shaping up to be an amazing console. I’m excited for the Series X to launch on November 10.
