While Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan was a beautifully made film, a lot of fans didn’t care for the fact that it stripped away everything that the fans loved about the original film. That included the music, the humor, and Mushu.
In the end, unfortunately the movie turned out to be boring and forgettable. The Screen Junkies have released a new episode of Honest Trailers pointing all of that out, and also jokingly points out several of the film’s other flaws.
It points out that Mulan tries to be a fantasy kung fu movie, a war epic, a fun kids flick, and an ode to female empowerment, yet doesn’t explore any of those lanes deeply enough to be satisfying.
I had high hopes for this film, but it just ended up being a disappointment.
