Two New Photos From DUNE Feature Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem

Thanks to Empire, we’ve got a couple of new photos to share with you from Denis Villeneuve‘s film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. These images offer a new look at the characters Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), and Stilgar (Javier Bardem).

In an interview with the magazine, Isaac praised the film’s relevant themes, saying:

“It’s about the destiny of a people, and the different way that cultures have dominated other ones. How do a people respond when it’s at the tipping point, when enough is enough, when they’re exploited? All those things are things we’re seeing around the world right now.”

Villeneuve, went on to talk about his vision for Lady Jessica in his adaptation of Dune:

“I didn’t want Lady Jessica to be an expensive extra. Something I deeply love in the book is that there was a strong balance between the masculine power and feminine power.”

The film’s cast also includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Josh Brolin as Duke Leto and Gurney Halleck, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, David Dastmcalchian as Piter De Vries, Chang Chen as Dr. Yueh, and Dave Bautista as the Baron’s nephew Rabban.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is currently slated to hit theaters on December 18th.
