With Theaters Opening Back Up, Here’s What The Box Office Looked Like For TENET, THE NEW MUTANTS, and More

Some pretty big highly-anticipated films opened up in theaters this weekend such as Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Josh Boone’s The New Mutants, and Dean Parisot’s Bill & Ted Face The Music.

I’ve been curious to see how these films end up doing at the box office with theaters opening back up and now that the numbers are in from the weekend, we can see how this is all playing out.

When it comes to Tenet, the movie is currently only open in theaters overseas, and it ended up doing better than projected with a haul of $53 million in 41 markets. It won’t open in the U.S. until September 3rd. It’ll be interesting to see how those domestic numbers turn out.

As of right now, only 62% of theaters are open and auditorium capacity restrictions allow for only 25%-50% occupancy. Considering all that, the Marvel film The New Mutants, brought in $7 million over the weekend, which isn’t really that bad with the state the world is in right now. The film also pulled in an additional $3 million overseas.

Then there’s Bill & Ted Face the Music which was released in theaters and on VOD. The movie ended up taking in $1.06 million overall from the 1007 theaters it opened up in. We don’t know how much it made on VOD yet, but it did land at No. 1 on iTunes. I hope the movie had a decent opening!

These movies will still be in theaters for months to come, so it will be interesting to see what the final numbers end up looking like after their extended theater runs.
