WONDER WOMAN Director Patty Jenkins Was Offered a Shot at Directing a JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie

Director Patty Jenkins has made a permanent name for herself in the world of super-hero film directors with the incredible Wonder Woman, and it’s upcoming sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. Before entering this world, she had the Oscar-winning film Monster under her belt, as well as work on some great series like Arrested Development, Entourage, The Killing, and last year’s I am the Night.

Jenkins is now a mainstay in the DCEU as the helmer of the Wonder Woman movie universe, but she did have other comic movie prospects, and now we have a new one to tell you about. We reported a couple of months ago the backstory of why Jenkins ended up passing on directing the MCU movie, Thor: The Dark World. She said of the decision that she walked away because she did not believe that she could make a good movie out of the script that they were planning on doing, and she didn’t want to be judged based on a film that she had such little control over.

Now Jenkins has revealed in a recent interview with French magazine, Premiere that she was approached with a proposal to take on a Justice League movie. In the interview, she talks about how it was the perfect environment for her to make Wonder Woman with DC, because they gave her full control for her vision, whereas the MCU wanted to keep full reign over the movies in their timeline, to keep the continuity tight. And after the success of her film, she says:

The point is, unlike other directors, I don’t really care about shared universes, continuity, and that kind of detail. I’ve been contacted to make a Justice League movie in the past, and it doesn’t connect to me. Too many characters.”

So it sounds like she found her perfect niche with the Wonder Woman films and her home at DC. I love what she did with the first film, and I can’t wait to see the sequel. Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit theatres August 14, 2020.

Would you have liked to have seen Jenkins direct a Justice League movie despite her reservations?
