I’ve got a fun and interesting video here for you to watch from Insider that shows us what motion capture creature performers look like while shooting the film before the VFX teams bring the characters to life for the films.
Some of the motion capture characters they look at are from films such as Call of the Wild, the Planet of the Apes trilogy, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Shape of Water, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
It’s pretty amazing to see how far technology has come bringing these animals and creatures to life. One day, I’m sure they will perfect the look of humans. They have done a great job de-aging actors, but there’s still a ways to go before they get it right.
