I’ve got an intense trailer here for a South African-set western drama titled Children of the Storm. The movie is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Brett Michael Innes.

The story is set in the South African wilderness 1800s. “Five years after their mother died, Rachel (Zonika de Vries), a girl on the cusp of adolescence and 5-year-old Jamie find themselves on their way to the virgin gold fields with their father, Herman (Stian Bam), as he tries to start a new life. When Jamie goes missing in a freak snow blizzard, Rachel braves the storm to look for her little brother.”

This story is based on a beloved tale that has been passed down from one generation to the next. It’s known as an “Afrikaans tale for all South Africans”. The original title of the film is The Story of Racheltjie De Beer, but not a lot of people outside of South Africa know who Racheltjie De Beer is. But, she is a young girl whose sacrifice saved her little brother’s life after the two got lost in a snowstorm.

This looks like both an intense and inspiring film. It was helmed by first-time feature film director Matthys Boshoff and it looks like a well-made film! I’m definitely interested in checking it out. ITN Movies will release the film direct-to-VOD in the UK sometime later this summer.
