Ahsoka Tano is a beloved Star Wars character who first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. However, it turns out that the young padawan almost appeared in Star Wars; Attack of the Clones. Vanity Fair recently spoke to Dave Filoni, Ashley Eckstein, and more about the Togruta Jedi, and we got to learn quite a bit.
Probably the biggest piece of news to me was that Filoni and George Lucas were calling Ahsoka Ashla as early as 2005 and originally thought of having her be a youngling that fans saw in Attack of the Clones when Obi-Wan interrupts Master Yoda’s lesson. However, as he explains, they did the math and the age just didn’t work out.
We called her Ashla in the beginning. That was 2005, and that worked on several levels for me. I think it was the name given to one of the [young Jedis Yoda was training] in Attack of the Clones. There was a little Togruta girl. We kicked around the idea that maybe that was Ahsoka but then we thought the age didn’t really work out for it to be the same character. She was too young in the film.
I am personally glad that they made Ahsoka a brand new character, but what do you think? Would you have preferred a connection to Attack of the Clones?
