Netflix has a new teen drama hitting the streamer called Outer Banks. The series stars Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, and Charles Esten, and was created by Shannon BurkeJonas Pate, and Josh Pate. The series is directed by Valerie Weiss, who has worked on Suits and The Resident.

Here’s the synopsis:

Outer Banks is a coming of age story that follows a tight-knit group of local teens (aka the Pogues) in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. When a hurricane kills the power for the summer season, it sets off a chain of illicit events that force the friends to make life-altering decisions. The search for their ringleader’s missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals turn their summer into one filled with mystery and adventure they’ll never forget.

On the streamer’s Facebook page, they posted the trailer and compared the series to “Dawson’s Creek + Goonies.” I wasn’t getting any Goonies vibes, and honestly didn’t feel like it was too much like Dawson’s Creek either, but that may be because Dawson’s Creek is the series of my youth, and while I know it was extremely cheesy, I identified with it and loved it. I didn’t identify with these characters right away, but that doesn’t mean the show doesn’t have any hope. Maybe there is a lot more to the story then we got to see in this trailer.
