HBO Shares Full Trailer For Robert Downey Jr.’s PERRY MASON Starring Matthew Rhys

HBO has released a full trailer for producer Robert Downey Jr.’s great looking limited series Perry Mason. Matthew Rhys (The Americans) takes on the title role of Mason, who is a private eye in the 1930s. This new trailer offers us our best look yet at the series and the story that it tells and I like what I see, especially the 30s film noir style and tone.

Here’s the synopsis:

1931, Los Angeles. While the rest of the country struggles through the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor! And a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong. Based on characters created by author Erle Stanley Gardner, this drama series follows the origins of American fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason. When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.

Downey Jr. developed and produced the series with his wife Susan Downey. It was co-written by Rolin Jones and Ron Fritzgerald, who are also set as the series’ showrunners. Tim Van Patten directs the series and he has worked on many popular HBO series such as Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Deadwood.

The series also stars John Lithgow (Pet Sematary, Terms of Endearment, The Crown), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Chris Chalk (Gotham) and Shea Whigham (Homecoming), Nate Corddry (Mom), Veronica Falcon (Queen of the South), Jefferson Mays (I Am The Night), Gayle Rankin (GLOW) and Lili Taylor (Chambers).

Perry Mason debuts June 21st on HBO.
