LEGO MASTERS Episode 4 Takes Us to the Movies

Another week and another episode of LEGO Masters. This episode was a lot of fun to watch with the theme being movies. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but you can watch new episodes on Fox on Wednesday evenings or Hulu the next day.

This episode was so much fun to watch. Each pair grabbed a popcorn bucket that had a different movie genre in it and then they were given 8 hours to create an amazing scene that fit that genre. I will give Aaron and Christian that they got potentially the hardest one, Romance. I honestly have absolutely no idea what I would’ve done for a Romantic scene on an epic scale. I will say that their dragon looked incredible. As for everyone else, I was loving what they were creating in the first half. Manny & Nestor had that Western build down! I did think that Tyler & Amie’s felt more like a kid movie than a comedy, but I can see the comedic elements and it was incredible.

The majority of problems came after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were brought in. These two are amazing filmmakers who directed The LEGO Movie and they gave each of the teams a second genre to incorporate into their scene. The contestants then had 5 hours to create this mashup. I was shocked with the direction Manny & Nestor went int. Did they really not know what Fantasy meant? They spent significant time working on the daydream fantasy concept and that’s probably what got them axed. Meanwhile, I do also agree with the judges that Krystle & Amie’s Western genre took over their Mystery scene. It felt less like a Mystery at the end and more like a weird Western. I am a little confused though as to how simply throwing a giant baby onto the build brought Mel & Jermaine’s build into the Kid genre. Did I miss other touches? Given, I was already a little put-off as they went more Sci-Fi than Fantasy in my opinion. I’m just sad that we didn’t see more dragons and unicorns and things like that thrown into either of the Fantasy builds.

In the end, Krystle & Amie and Manny & Nestor were in the bottom two and I think it was a tough call for the judges, but Manny & Nestor left. I am really worried for Krystle & Amie. I really like their builds, but they’re not doing great at meeting the standards. I think they only survived because Manny & Nestor spent time on a non-Fantasy build in the second part. Meanwhile, Boone & Mark beat out Tyler & Amie. I feel like Tyler & Amie are going to be the team that is constantly in the top two, but never wins. Both teams did incredible builds and so I can’t really say the win wasn’t deserved, but I just feel bad with how often it feels Tyler & Amie are getting snubbed. Also, it was pretty obvious who the top two were since they were the only ones that got their creations animated. It was a cool touch, but took out some of the suspense.

In addition, I think it was smart for Christian & Aaron to use the Golden Brick. I think they would’ve been in big trouble if they hadn’t. The question is, when will it come back and who will win it? I’ll be honest, I don’t really have a favorite team at the moment, and I no longer have a least favorite team. They’re all doing great and I just want to keep seeing what they build. Do you have a favorite team?
