I cannot believe there’s only one issue left in Folklords. I’m really not sure how everything is going to get wrapped up in one more issue. Folklords #4 came out this week and it certainly is giving us fans something to think about it. If you haven’t read it yet, you can get a copy from your local comic shop or if you prefer digital copies, you could go through comiXology, Google Play, iBooks, or Madefire.
In this issue, we learn about Ugly’s past. She’s always been confused about why she looks the way she does and thought she may have been cursed. This led her to go around kissing every guy she could find until that wonderful true love’s kiss released the curse. Heck, she even took it as her quest to lift her curse. It has been so long that she’s more or less resigned herself to the life she’s in with no hope of anything changing. It’s one of those things where she’s very callous, but there’s something about Ansel that’s rekindling some fire inside of her. I’m really interested to see what happens with this. Is she really cursed or is it just a thing where she needed to learn to love herself.
Ugly and Ansel then meat a librarian named Sal. Er, Sal is actually an ex-Librarian. He’s one of these mysterious mentor-esque guys who is there to help everyone, but only when he feels like it. He’s constantly disappearing and reappearing. He seems cool, but is definitely a plot device. He takes them through an underground passage to the Librarynth. It is interesting to note that Sal only works to protect Ansel, but leaves Ugly to fend for herself. Needless to say, Ugly doesn’t trust Sal.
Ugly and Ansel then begin the Librarynth and as they go from room to room, they move from world to world seemingly. In one world, there’s a man in a chair who talks about the Librarians not being about reason. Then, they end up in a war bunker and who should be there but Archer. That’s right! Somehow Archer has ended up in a war world that is reminiscent of World War I and World War II.
Finally, we cut away to robed figures I can only assume are Librarians as the narrator goes on about not liking allegories. Finally, we see the narrator who appears to be an author. Everything makes sense no. Well, except for how these worlds are all connected. How do you think this whole thing is going to be wrapped up?
