The 1997 Giant Snake Thriller ANACONDA is Getting a Remake with The Writer of TOMB RAIDER

For some reason, the 90s amazon jungle-set horror-thriller Anaconda is getting the reboot treatment thanks to Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The studio has also hired Evan Daugherty, who has worked on films such as Tomb Raider and Snow White and the Huntsman, to write the script.

The original film followed “a documentary film crew in the Amazon that comes across an obsessed hunter looking to find a legendary anaconda. The hunter derails the expedition for his own purpose, with the filmmakers now forced to contend with a murderous madman and a giant snake that will squeeze the life out of them and swallow them for good measure.”

The movie starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, Kari Wuhrer and Jonathan Hyde. After the first film was released, there was one theatrical sequel and three direct-to-home releases, which I haven’t seen.

I haven’t seen the original since I first saw it in theaters and I remember not liking it. So, I guess a remake could only be an improvement on it? I don’t know, maybe there are fans of the original that will be pissed off by the news. For me, I just don’t care. It’s just another unoriginal Hollywood remake.

According to THR, Daugherty’s take is “not a remake or a sequel but a reimagining.” Other than that there are no story details, but it will obviously involve a giant-ass snake that will probably eat people.

What do you all think about Anaconda getting remade?
