Director Quentin Tarantino has turned out his ninth feature film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is not only one of my favorite films of all time, but has garnered nominations for Best Motion Picture and Best Director, alongside eight other nominations in the upcoming Academy Awards, as well as already winning the Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.

While Tarantino has famously said he would like to make ten films before he retires and has talked about a few different projects, he has switched courses a bit in light of his 2018 marriage and having his first child on the way. He confirmed such in a recent interview on the ABCNews interview show Popcorn With Peter Travers. He talked about how the whole basis of who he is as a filmmaker is someone who sits down in front of blank paper and creates something that didn’t exist before. He expounded, saying:

“So there is this writer aspect of me. So I kind of like that now it’s time for the third act, to just lean a little bit more into the literary, which would be good as a new father, as a new husband. I wouldn’t be grabbing my family and yanking them to Germany or yanking them to Sri Lanka or wherever the next story takes place. I can be a little bit more of a homebody and become a little bit more of a man of letters.”

He went on to talk about that illusive tenth film, for which many different ideas have been tossed around, but ultimately doesn’t have an official plan yet.

“Frankly though, I’m actually really kind of excited about the idea that I really have no idea what that tenth movie is going to be. It’s a very open idea.”

That is pretty exciting to me, too. For a while he said he wanted a film in each genre, so it felt like his final film would have to fit into that mold. Then he talked about doing a Star Trek film, but has since said he passed his idea along, and he won’t be the one making it. He has also talked about doing a Kill Bill Vol. 3, which I would be down with as well, but I am most excited about seeing something that is just completely original, with no expectations. It may be interesting to see what he creates after becoming a father as well. I’m all for him slowing down and enjoying his family, as long as we get to see his work again someday.

What would you like to see from Tarantino in the future?
