I was disappointed when Byleth was announced as the sixth DLC character (remember Pirahna Plant) for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, they did announce that Fighter Pass 2 would feature six new characters for the franchise. This got me thinking, who would I like to see appear in the game? Below you will find six characters that I think would be a lot of fun in SSBU, and none of them are from Fire Emblem.
Astral Chain Protagonist
Astral Chain is a fun game with a cool story. Bringing in the main character of the game with their chimeras would be so cool. There are so many approaches you could take with it too. You could do something to Joker with Arsene or maybe something like Pokémon Trainer where you don’t fight but you can swap out some different chimeras. Heck, you could even do something similar to Rosalina and Luma. Those are just ideas based on existing characters, too. I’m sure there are some other brilliant ways to utilize this character.
Steve from Minecraft
This would be a very welcome addition to the roster and further show the friendship between Xbox and Nintendo. Steve could go around punching people as his standard but then pulls out his sword, pickaxe, and more to whoop his opponents. Maybe his down special is him building a wall.
Dante from Devil May Cry
Dante is highly anticipated with the first two Devil May Cry games now available on Switch and the third one coming soon. Many even thought he’d take Byleth’s spot. I think that they could have a lot of fun with Dante and even do a mechanic similar to Shulk where he can change his style during battle. This would give him a lot of versatility.
Spyro
I know that Spyro is a popular choice, and that’s ok. I’d love to have another non-humanoid join the fray. I’d be extremely curious about what moves the team would use for Spyro outside of his fire and ramming. Plus, he’s a gaming icon. He deserves to be in the game.
Power Rangers
I know this is a very odd choice, but I absolutely love this prospect. Thanks to Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, there is a Power Rangers game on the Nintendo Switch. I’d love it if the iconic superhero team could make an appearance in SSBU. You could once again use a mechanic like Pokémon Trainer to change between the Rangers and then instead of different colors, the season changes between say Mighty Morphin to In Space to S.P.D., etc. It’s brilliant! It would be a lot of work though, and is nothing more than a pipe dream.
Geralt from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt
Coming off the success of the Netflix series and a port for the Nintendo Switch, Geralt is a no-brainer. Yes, he’s another sword-user in a game oversaturated with them, but he could use two swords! That would make him different, right?
