New CHILD’S PLAY Featurette Dives into The Cast and Characters of the Film

Orion Pictures has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Child’s Play and it introduces us to the cast of the film and offers details on the characters that they play. Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman, are all featured in the video. It also shows off some new footage!

Plaza takes on the role of a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddy doll, which turns out to be a murderous killer doll. Andy and his group of friends take on and stop the technologically-advanced defective ‘Buddy doll’ which seems to have a taste for blood and violence. When previously talking about why she took on the role, Plaza said:

“I love it so much. To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven’t seen our film, just the trailer, but it’s a real throwback horror movie. It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it. The reason I did it was for how beautiful the script was. It doesn’t feel like a hokey, shticky, campy movie. If you remember the original Child’s Play, it was a drama! It wasn’t that funny. As the franchise went on, it became something else. The remake really captures the original.”

That’s good to hear and I hope that it does capture the spirit of the original movie. Plaza explains that while the original film was slasher movie, this one is considered to be more of a psychological thriller.

“I play Karen, the mother, and I have less interaction with Chucky than the actor who plays my son does. I can’t reveal too much. We’re not supposed to talk about Chucky. It builds for Karen in a way that I’m interacting with Chucky by the end, but I’m mostly dealing with my son — who I almost believe is behind the mayhem. The horror of it all will be for the audience. For me, it’s more of a psychological thriller.”

Additional cast members include Beatrice Kitsos (The Exorcist) and Ty Consiglio (Wonder) who will be playing the roles of Falyn and Pugg, respectively, two friends of Andy Barclay. Carlease Burke (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) will also star in the film. Then there’s Mark Hamill, who will be voicing Chucky.

The movie is directed by Lars Klevberg, who directed the horror movie Polaroid. As for the script, it was written by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2). It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are producing.

Child’s Play will be released in theaters on June 21st.
