Here’s a trailer for a small film that made festival rounds back in 2016 but never saw a theatrical release. It’s finally getting a small VOD release this June, and hopefully we will see it streaming somewhere after that. Katie Says Goodbye stars Olivia Cooke, Christopher Abbott, James Belushi, Keir Gilchrist, Chris Lowell, Mireille Enos, and Mary Steenburgen. The cast, the story, and the acting all seem on par, so I don’t know why this film didn’t get a release, but I’m glad we are at least hearing about it so we can keep an eye out for it.
The story is of Katie (Cooke), who plays a teenager from small town New Mexico who turns to part-time prostitution on top of waiting tables to save the money to fulfill her dream of moving to San Francisco. She falls in love unexpectedly, and her life is sort of in upheaval. Cooke does a wonderful job of portraying her despair and hope in this trailer. I’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.
