Let’s Talk About THE MANDALORIAN Chapter 4 “Sanctuary” – This Goes Full on SEVEN SAMURAI

The fourth chapter of The Mandalorian titled “Sanctuary” has aired, and now that you’ve had the weekend to watch it, let’s talk about it!

In this episode, The Mandalorian lands on what he thinks is a quiet planet named Sorgan to settle down for a little while and keep a low profile. As you might expect, things don’t go as planned. If you haven’t seen this latest chapter of the story yet, you might not want to read ahead.

While on the planet Sorgan, The Mando meets a new ally named Cara Dune, who is played by Gina Carano. She is an ex Shock Trooper that was in the Alliance to help restore the republic during the Galactic Civil War. She took an “early retirement” when she didn’t like the direction that her job was headed. She explained that when the politics started, they ended up being peacekeepers, protecting delegates, and suppressing riots, which is not what she signed up for.

When the Mandalorian spots her in a little cafe, she thought he was hunting her down and when he went after her to get some information, she got the drop on him and totally kicked his ass. This scene shows you just how badass of a brawler this character is! You don’t want to mess with her! She floored him with one crazy-ass punch to the helmet!

While on the planet, the Mandalorian ends up being approached by two representatives from a small farming community who wants to hire him to protect them from being terrorized by a gang of raiders who reside in a near-by village. The Mandalorian agrees to take on the job thinking that it’s not going to be that challenging and he mostly thinks this small village in the middle of nowhere will be a safe place for him and “The Child”, who he is protecting. He ends up bringing Cara in to help out giving her the pay from the villagers.

Speaking of “The Child”, he is ridiculously adorable in this episode and I just can’t get enough of him. He brings a sweetness and soul to this series that I just love. When they get to the village there are a group of kids that take a liking to “The Child” and they enjoy spending time with him and playing with him.

Once The Mando, Cara, and The Child get to the village, they settle in and Mando meets a woman named Omera, who he takes a liking to. She talks to the Mando about the last time he took off his helmet in front of someone and he reveals that he hasn’t taken it off since he was a kid. But, he does take it off in private and at once point right before he eats some food, he actually does take off his helmet, but we don’t see his face. I love that they aren’t showing the character’s face in this series. It adds so much more to his character’s personality and development.

When the Mando and Cara find out that the raiders terrorizing the village have an AT-ST Walker, they know that this isn’t going to be as easy of a job as they thought it would. This is where the series pretty much turns into an Akira Kurosawa film and is very much reminiscent of the classic film Seven Samurai as The Mando and Cara set up a trap for the raiders with the farmers. They teach the villagers how to fight and protect themselves. The plan is then to lure the raiders into their village where they will be ready to take out the AT-ST and attack!

There are some cool visuals here especially with the glow of the AT-ST’s red eyes at it comes marching through the forest at night chasing after the Mando and Cara, who had just blown up a hut in the raiders village with a thermal detonator to get their attention and piss them off. As the AT-ST and the raiders storm the village, the villager’s attack. The AT-ST falls for the trap and the villagers are victorious in chasing the raiders away.

After the victory the Mando and Cara stay in the village a few days and Cara encourages him to settle down with Omera, but there’s no settling down for The Mandalorian. His plan was to move on and leave The Child there to be taken care of by the villagers. The Child seemed to like it there and the kids loved him. As he is feeling comfortable with this decision, a bounty hunter tracks them down and attempts to kill The Child, but thankfully Cara kills the bounty hunter first. The Child is not safe here. It’s clear that the bounty hunters aren’t going to stop coming, so the Mandalorian must continue on his journey protecting him and Cara will not be joining him.

This is another great episode and I loved how the story played out. There’s no laying low for the Mandalorian and riding this thing out. The guild isn’t going to stop coming after him and The Child. As this story plays out, it’s nice to see how honorable of a person The Mandalorian is and I’m sure this won’t be the last time he decides to help someone out who is in need.

I’m just happy that we are going to get more of the Mandalorian and The Child spending time together on this adventure and I can’t wait to see what awaits them next!
