Marvel and NetEase have finally announced their first collaboration: MARVEL Super War. Super War will be a free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) for Android and iOS and if you’re lucky enough to live in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, or Thailand, you could get into the closed beta which is currently live. For the rest of us, we’ll just have to wait and sate our hunger with what little we know.
In Super War, fans will be able to play as a wide variety of characters from X-Men to Avengers to Guardians of the Galaxy to more. Some confirmed characters include Deadpool, Thor, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Magneto. Aside from these iconic characters though, Super War wants to set itself apart from the competition. On Marvel’s site it states:
“Unlike traditional MOBAs on mobile, MARVEL Super War is focused on fair combat and balanced gameplay. The MOBA staple unfair rune-like system has been given an overhaul and replaced with a completely open and free buff system, meaning that reputation and achievements can only be earned through skill and perseverance.”
Ok, that should help even the playing field between new players and veterans, but Super War will also feature combos that sound fancier than they probably are. An example they give is Deadpool’s ability to switch between melee and ranged weapons. I honestly feel like they either didn’t give enough detail in this section or they’re implying more than it is as other MOBAs feature some form of combos. I did spot a fourth ability button for some characters though so maybe that’s a part of it?
Sadly, there’s no release date for the rest of the world at the moment, but I’m excited to give Super War a try. I just got into a mobile MOBA and I’m surprised at how well I like it.
