The creative team behind the hit manga and anime series One Piece has been working on developing a live-action adaptation for some time. Creator Eiichiro Oda previously said that they have been working with a Hollywood production studio to make this happen. He said he wanted to explore a live-action version of the series before he got too old to oversee the project.

Well, it looks like their project has gained some major traction as Oda has confirmed that the series has been picked up by Netflix and that the first season will consist of ten episodes. If the first season is a success, you can expect a second season of the new take on the Grand Line.

Fans of the anime have been waiting for an update on this project for a long time, and this is the best news possible! The fact that the creative team behind the anime are developing the live-action series is exciting because it will stay true to what has come before.

The story for One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, “a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as ‘One Piece’ in order to become the next King of the Pirates.”

Are you a fan of the manga and/or anime and are you excited to see this live-action series adaptation?

The synopsis for Fantasy Island teases a murder mystery challenge which reads as follows: “The Enigmatic Mr. Roarke (played by Michael Peña) makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.”

The film is described as being a tonal mix of Westworld meets The Cabin in the Woods, centering on a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their dreams, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios.

The movie stars Lucy Hale (Truth or Dare), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley), Charlotte McKinney (FlatlinersBaywatch), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), Parisa Fitz-Henley (Luke CageJessica Jones), Austin Stowell (Catch 22), Maggie Q (Divergent film franchise), Portia Doubleday (Carrie), and Ryan Hansen (Friday the 13th).

Fantasy Island was a fan-favorite during its original run on the small screen. The island drama dealt with dark themes and the supernatural with a little bit of cheesiness as visitors would come to the island to live out their fantasies. Guests could request any fantasy on the unique resort island in the Pacific Ocean, overseen by the mysterious Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize’s Tattoo, but those fantasies rarely turned out as expected as visitors found themselves facing challenges that tested their character.

The Star Wars franchise has been running for 43 years, going all the way back to the debut installment A New Hope in 1977, which was followed by two very successful sequels The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi before remaining dormant for just over fifteen years. It would then spark back to life with George Lucas’s mixed-reviewed prequel trilogy, beginning with 1999’s The Phantom Menace and followed by 2002’s Attack of the Clones and ending with Revenge of the Sith.

After being bought out from Lucas by Disney in 2012, Lucasfilm brought the franchise back to life in 2015 with the first of its sequel trilogy The Force Awakens, which earned very positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and scored over $2 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing installment in the franchise. It was followed by the controversial The Last Jedi in 2017 from Rian Johnson, then the concluding installment in the nine-film Skywalker Saga The Rise of Skywalker last month, which also saw polarized reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Following its revival in the last decade, the franchise also tried its hand at standalone spin-offs with the acclaimed hit 2016 Rogue One and the Han Solo origin story Solo. The latter received generally positive reviews from critics, but more mixed reception from audiences and was a box office bomb, putting any other spin-offs on hold or cancelled while Lucasfilm retools how the series will move forward.

Kyle MacLachlan shares his thoughts on the Dune remake

There’s been a lot of anticipation surrounding Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming remake of Dune and original star Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) has shared his thoughts on Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) taking over the role of Paul Atreides.

RELATED: Oscar Isaac: Dune Remake is “Shocking, Unique and Visceral”

In an interview with Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob Reboot) for IMDB, MacLachlan revealed he is “very excited” to see the remake and the 24-year-old actor in the role.

“There will be a couple of us out there, running around, there’s plenty of room I think,” MacLachlan said. “Timothée I think will do a fantastic job, I’m very much looking forward to the vision he has. David Lynch is, of course, a very specific vision, so this will be something completely different I’m sure. Why not have both stand on their own merits?”

The star-studded cast includes Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) and Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in leading roles. The film will also feature Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor: The Dark World), Charlotte Rampling (The Night Porter) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame).

Villeneuve is best known for directing Blade Runner 2049 as well as Sicario. Though Dune will likely resemble the former film more than the latter, both display the sort of experience directing arid, desolate locales that a fan would want in their Dune director, considering a sizable chunk of the story takes place on a desert planet.

Dune will be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
