Star Trek: Picard will tell the next story of Picard’s life, taking place after Star Trek: Next Generation. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman revealed in March that it will be “a very different show from Discovery.” He also mentioned that the series will be a “very thoughtful, psychological portrait in a lot of ways… Things have changed for [Picard] and changed him in some ways, and yet he is so deeply and fundamentally still Picard.”

The series will also see the return of Star Trek alums including Brent Spiner as Data, Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh the Borg, and Star Trek: Voyager‘s Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine along with Marina Sirtis as Commander Deanna Troi and Jonathan Frakes as Riker.

Picard will also be featuring Santiago Cabrera (Big Little Lies), Michelle Hurd (Blindspot), Evan Evagora (Fantasy Island), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Harry Treadaway (Mr. MercedesPenny Dreadful), and Isa Briones (American Crime Story: Versace).

Star Trek: Discovery co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman will oversee development on the new show, which is not a Star Trek: The Next Generation reboot but rather a continuation of Picard’s story. Michael Chabon will serve as showrunner.

Kurtzman will executive produce the new series alongside newly-appointed Star Trek: Discovery executive producer James Duff, former Discovery executive producer Akiva Goldsman (The Dark Tower), Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2) and Star Trek: Voyager and Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer. Also executive producing are Heather Kadin of Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment President Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and Roddenberry Entertainment COO Trevor Roth.

STAR WARS Meets BLADE RUNNER in This Test Footage From George Lucas’ STAR WARS: UNDERWORLD TV Series

Before Disney bought Lucasfilm and started developing their own Star Wars projects, George Lucas was developing a live-action series titled Star Wars: Underworld. He wanted it to be a 400 episode series, and before the project was put on hold, he reportedly already had 100 completed scripts.

The series was to be set in the Coruscant underworld between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. It was going to be a gangster drama that was likened to Deadwood and The Godfather in space. It was also described as being The Empire Strikes Back on steroids. Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum previously discussed the project saying:

Basically, it is like The Godfather; it’s the Empire slowly building up its power base around the galaxy, what happens in Coruscant, which is the major capital, and it’s a group of underground bosses who live there and control drugs, prostitution.

There was also a rumor that the show would have involved time travel and killing Darth Vader. That report offered the following info:

One of the series’ first episodes will involve a group of bandits acquiring the capability of time travel, and using it to travel back in time to stop Darth Vader from ever existing.

This was a series that I always wanted to see get made! Unfortunately, it’ll probably never happen. But, today some test footage from the series was shared online and it shows us what this series would have looked like, and it’s awesome!

As you’ll see, the style of the series was heavily influenced by Blade Runner and I love it! Now I want to see this project get made even more! Common Lucasfilm and Disney! The scripts are written, this looks like it would be awesome! Make it happen! When previously talking about the project Kathleen Kennedy said:

“Interestingly enough, that’s an area we’ve spent a lot of time, reading through the material that he developed is something we very much would like to explore. And there was 1313 the game, where there was…unbelievable. So our attitude is, we don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.”

The video also features a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the test footage. Watch it and let us know if you’d like to see Star Wars: Underworld get made!

The Directors of UNCUT GEMS Are Considering Directing a New PEE-WEE HERMAN Movie

Paul Reubens isn’t done with Pee-Wee Herman yet! The actor still very much wants to make his “Valley of the Dolls Pee-Wee movie,” and he’s been shopping his Pee-wee Herman Story script around Hollywood.

The project is described as a “very un-Pee-wee-sounding screenplay that takes his puckish TV persona into dark and unexpected territory.” The first draft of Reubens’s script was written in the late 1990s. In the story, Pee-Wee is released from prison and becomes an unlikely yodeling star. He ends up moving to Hollywood and becomes a movie star, and on his journey, he develops a severe pill and alcohol addiction that turns him into a monster. Pee-Wee is then sent to a mental hospital for shock treatment for his problems. I’m serious. Reubens says, “It’s about fame.”

Reubens reached out to the directors of Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, the Safdie Brothers, and they are considering directing the project. If they do end up taking it on, it seems like the perfect kind of project for them as they dive into the dark territory of Pee-Wee.

Reubens has pitched the film to several filmmakers and producers including Judd Apatow and Netflix, who greenlit 2016’s Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. But they all turned it down. Reubens has agreed to make this film for $15 million and will incorporate de-aging technology to make him look younger.

While lots of people are skeptical about the project happening, Reubens said that he feels like “it’s going to probably happen” and that he has “a couple of people interested” in the project. If the Safdie Brothers do come on board, I’m sure the project will get made.

Would you watch this super dark story revolving around the lovable Pee-Wee Herman?

Taron Egerton and Scarlett Johansson Up for Roles in New LITTLE SHOP OF HORROR Movie

The classic musical Little Shop of Horrors is getting a new film adaptation, and there are new reports of two big-name actors who are looking to join the film. According to Full Circle Cinema, Rocketman star Taron Egerton is wanted for the lead role of Seymour Krelborn. Then entertainment reporter Jeff Snieder says that Scarlett Johansson is wanted for the role of Audrey, and Billy Porter is up for the role of the man-eating alien plant Audrey 2.

The story follows a nerdy florist who comes across a plant that appears after an eclipse of the sun. He takes it back to the flower shop he works at to help attract customers. To keep the plant healthy and growing he has to feed it human blood and meat.

The Frank-Oz-directed 1984 film with Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray is such a great film. I watched it all the time when I was kid, and it was a remake of the classic 1960s film. The off-Broadway musical came from Alen Menken and Miles Goodman.

A few years ago, Greg Berlinati (Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl.) was hired to direct a remake of the film. I’m not sure if he is still attached to the project. Before that, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was developing a remake, and he was supposed to play Seymour. He is actually perfect for the part, and I’d much rather see him in the film than Egerton. I doubt he’d still be in the running at this point, though.

I guess Egerton could pull it off, but he’s obviously not my top choice. As far as Johansson playing Audrey, though, I could easily imagine her in the role, but I don’t know if she could pull off voice and the singing. If she ends up being cast, I guess we’ll find out.

What do you think about the possibility of these actors joining Little Shop of Horrors?
