New York in the ’90s: After leaving graduate school to pursue her dream of becoming a writer, Joanna (Margaret Qualley) gets hired as an assistant to Margaret (Sigourney Weaver), the stoic and old-fashioned literary agent of J. D. Salinger. Fluctuating between poverty and glamour, she spends her days in a plush, wood-paneled office – where dictaphones and typewriters still reign and agents doze off after three-martini lunches – and her nights in a sink-less Brooklyn apartment with her socialist boyfriend. Joanna’s main task is processing Salinger’s voluminous fan mail, but as she reads the heart-wrenching letters from around the world, she becomes reluctant to send the agency’s impersonal standard letter and impulsively begins personalizing the responses. The results are both humorous and moving, as Joanna, while using the great writer’s voice, begins to discover her own.

In the 10-episode season set in present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay, they rediscover the joys of playing just for love of the game.

Based on the 1992 sports comedy-drama film, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will star Good Boys’ Brady Noon, Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls), and original star Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire). The series will also feature Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham, and DJ Watts.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. Steve Brill, the original creator, writer, and executive producer of all three films, which spawned an NHL franchise, is back as co-creator and executive producer of the new series. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa (The King of Queens, 13 Going On 30) are co-creators and will serve as executive producers and showrunners. Michael Spiller serves as executive producer/director on the series, with James Griffiths serving as director/EP on the Pilot. Emilio Estevez is an executive producer and Lauren Graham is co-executive producer. George Heller and Brad Petrigala of Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jon Avnet and Jordan Kerner also serve as non-writing executive producers.

The original film was directed by Stephen Herek. It starred Estevez as Gordon Bombay, a successful attorney who later became the coach of a local youth hockey team after he was sentenced to community service as a punishment for drunk driving. After some self-realization, Estevez’s Gordon helped the underdog team by teaching them the techniques he learned when he was a kid which led them to win the state championship.

Disney+ has shared a new trailer for its upcoming Mighty Ducks sequel series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. They’ve also announced that the 10-episode series will premiere on March 26th!

The series looks like it’s going to be a wonderful and uplifting continuation of the franchise and I’m actually pretty excited about it! I grew up on the original films and I loved them, I’ve always liked stories about underdogs rising to the occasion. This series carries that same spirit and inspiration as the original movies.

The series sees the return of Emilio Estevez as Coach Gordon Bombay. He is joined by Lauren Graham and Brady Noon, as well as Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins and De’Jon Watts in the cast.

The series is set in present-day Minnesota, “where the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom, Alex (Graham), set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.”

Kevin Feige Says Chloé Zhao’s Pitch For ETERNALS is The Best He’s Ever Heard

Out of all the Marvel projects set to be released during phase four, I’ve noticed that the least amount of excitement is for Eternals. Well, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is looking to change that and build up some more hype for it.

During a recent profile of director Chloé Zhao by Rolling Stone, Feige praised the director and said that “Zhao’s pitch for the movie the is best he’d ever heard.” He added:

“Not only does Chloe make remarkable, small, personal movies in a remarkable, small, personal way, but she thinks in grand, cosmic, gigantic terms, which fit perfectly with what we wanted to do. Eternals is a very big, sweeping, multimillennial-spanning story. And she just got it.”

That should give fans a little boost of confidence in the movie and the director. It has been teased that Eternals could go “further and bigger” than Avengers: Endgame. But that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see.

Marvel should record their pitch meetings and then release them as part of the special features. I would love to see how some of these pitch meetings go!

Eternals stars Angelina Jolie as Thena, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Richard Madden as Icarus, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, and then there’s Kit Harrington as an archeologist named Dane Whitman.

A lot of the film’s story details have been kept under wraps, but here’s the synopsis that was released:

Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

In the comics, The Eternals were sent to Earth 35,000 years ago by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants. The director, Chloé Zhao, previously explained, “It’s about this group of incredible immortals, but through their journey, we really get to explore what it means to be human and humanity on our time on this planet.”

It’s also explained in a description for the film that following the events of Avengers: Endgame, “an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”

Eternals will be released in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
