Chucky: Devon Sawa Joins Don Mancini’s Long-in-Development Series

Chucky: Devon Sawa Joins Don Mancini’s Long-in-Development Series

As USA Network and SYFY continue to prepare for the start of the Chucky production, Collider brings word that the long-in-development project has finally found the first actors to fill up the main cast. Final Destination alum Devon Sawa has officially been tapped for a key role in Don Mancini’s upcoming Chucky series. Joining him are Zackary Arthur (Transparent), Teo Briones (Ratched), Bjorgvin Arnarson (PEN15), and Alyvia Alyn Lind (The Young and the Restless), who are set to play the series’ four young unnamed leads.

Sawa is no stranger to the horror genre as he previously starred in 1995’s Casper, 1999’s Idle Hands, the first installment of Final Destination in 2000, and most recently in last year’s Hunter Hunter. He along with young leads will officially be joining Chucky alums Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly, who are reprising their roles as the voice of the titular killer doll and Tiffany, respectively.

In the Chucky series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies – and allies – from his past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

In 1988, Chucky slashed his way into the pop culture zeitgeist with the premiere of Child’s Play directed and co-written by Tom Holland. The international sensation spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and David Kirschner produced. Last year, Orion Pictures had released a horror remake of the 1988 film which featured Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky.

Mancini (Hannibal) and Kirschner (Hocus Pocus) will executive produce alongside Nick Antoscia (The Act) via his Eat the Cat banner. This project will be Mancini’s second collaboration with SYFY, who worked on the horror anthology series Channel Zero.

The Child’s Play franchise has been running for 30 years, with the first film dropping in 1988 to box office success, generally positive reviews, and a cult following, spawning six sequels that remained box office successes but slowly started earning more mixed and negative reviews, until the revitalized Curse of Chucky, which returned to the franchise’s horror roots and earned very positive reviews. Brad Dourif has been a staple of the franchise since its inception, lending his voice to the murderous doll in all of the films.

In 2019, Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play remake was released starring Gabriel Bateman as Andy and Aubrey Plaza as his mother. Mark Hamill took over voicing the killer doll in the modernized horror tale based on Mancini’s original movie.

JUMANJI Producer Confirms That Another JUMANJI Sequel Is in the Works With Dwayne Johnson and Cast Returning

jumanji welcome to the jungle.jpg

The reboot Jumanji films have turned out to be a really fun couple of movies, with booming profits and a solid fanbase. Premiering in 2017 and 2019, they took the original concept of the kids trapped in the board game, and brought it up to date with four high schoolers trapped in an old school video game found in the basement of their school. Each movie was a fun adventure, and the characters they turn into were played by hilarious cast members Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, with Nick Jonas as well as Awkwafina, Danny Glover, and Danny DeVito later joining the fold.

Now, fans can rest assured that we will see the core cast reunite for at least one more adventure. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Jumanji producer and President of Production at Seven Bucks Productions, Hiram Garcia, said:

“You know, we’re always having conversations, and that’s a family, that entire group if there’s ever been. It’s hard to imagine or remember a time I’ve been on a set where it’s just a beloved group of cast and crew and actors and that’s just one of those things where we know we have a really big idea that we want to do with it. We’ve been discussing it.”

He went on to add:

“There’s conversations have been going we’re in the process of moving that along,” Garcia says of the next film in the franchise. “I can’t tell you anything, but we do have big plans for it and that’s one of our favorite projects to work on and that’s cooking away.”

My kids will be thrilled. This is one of the movie franchise that my entire family gets excited about, and we all like to rewatch on occasion. I think there are plenty of fresh ideas they can run with in this universe, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Are you excited for another Jumanji adventure?

From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, 2019’s The Lion King, Impeachment: American Crime Story) and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller (the Neighbors films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Judd Apatow (The King of Staten Island, Trainwreck, The Big Sick), comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about finding sex, love, and romance amidst the madness.

Bros is directed by Nicholas Stoller from his screenplay with Eichner.

Netflix Picks Up The Dwayne Johnson-Produced Adventure Film TEDDY AND THE GUARDIANS OF THE NIGHT

Dwayne Johnson has been looking to make a fantasy adventure film titled Teddy and the Guardians of the Night since 2013, and Netflix has just picked up the project. The story for the film is actually based on a piece of art created by Alex Panagopoulos, it shows a stuffed teddy bear protecting a child sleeping soundly from a terrifying monstrous threat in her bedroom.

Johnson will be producing the film through his Seven Bucks Productions along with president Hiram Garcia, who is the one that found the art and thought it would make a great movie. Garcia said in a statement:

“At Seven Bucks, we’re always on the hunt for content that can help inspire our next big story. From the moment I saw Alex’s incredible drawing, I knew there was something special there that our global audiences could respond to. We’re excited to add to our growing slate with Netflix and share this story with the world.”

It really is a fantastic piece of art that explodes with imagination. It’s really not hard to imagine this being turned into a film. It’s also been announced that Josh Stolberg and Bobby Florsheim have been hired to write the new screenplay after an original draft was written by Luke Passmore (Archenemy). Stolberg and Florsheim recently wrote the upcoming Saw film Spiral.

I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of story comes out of this art.

Kalinda Vazquez Will Write Paramount’s Next Star Trek Movie

Kalinda Vazquez Will Write Paramount’s Next Star Trek Movie

Kalinda Vazquez Will Write Paramount’s Next Star Trek Movie

The Star Trek Universe is on the verge of big things over at Paramount+. But while the brand is currently thriving on the small screen, its big screen future has been nebulous ever since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters in 2016. There have been a handful of false starts since then, with everyone from Noah Hawley to Quentin Tarantino flirting with the idea of putting their own stamp on the franchise. However, it looks like Paramount is searching in-house for a writer to tackle their next Star Trek film. According to Deadline, Star Trek: Discovery scribe Kalinda Vazquez will pen the movie’s script (via SuperHeroHype).

Being involved with the Star Trek Universe seems to be Vazquez’s birthright. She was named after a character named Kelinda who appeared in an episode of the original Star Trek series in 1968. Apart from Discovery, Vazquez has also written for Star Trek: Short Treks, Fear the Walking Dead, and Marvel’s Runaways. She’s currently collaborating with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin on a TV adaptation of Roger Zelazny’s Roadmarks. That series will eventually air HBO.

It’s not clear what Vazquez and Paramount are planning for the next theatrical Star Trek adventure. But per Deadline’s sources, this new pact represents a “blind deal” between her and the studio. J.J. Abrams, who directed Paramount’s first two Star Trek movies set in the Kelvin timeline, will produce the new film through his Bad Robot banner.

Paramount still hasn’t shared a release window for their next Star Trek movie.

Which corners of the Star Trek Universe should be explored in Vazquez’s film? Let us know in the comment section below!

On his last combat deployment, Lieutenant Commander James Reece’s entire team was killed in a catastrophic ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government.

With breathless pacing and relentless suspense, Reece ruthlessly targets his enemies in the upper echelons of power without regard for the laws of combat or the rule of law.”
