Leslie Bibb Joins Kristen Wiig in Dramedy Series MRS. AMERICAN PIE at Apple TV+

Leslie Bibb (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Iron Man) has joined the cast of the Apple TV+ dramatic comedy series Mrs. American Pie. She joins previously announced co-stars Kristen Wiig and Allison Janney, as well as Laura Dern, who is poised to take on a role as well as executive produce. The series is created by Abe Sylvia (Dead To Me, The Eyes of Tammy Faye), who is writing the series with Juliet McDaniel, who wrote the book the series is based on, with Tate Taylor (The Help, The Girl on the Train) directing.

“Set during the powderkeg era of the early 1970s, it follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) and her attempt to secure her seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have nots, the series asks the same questions that baffle us today: Who gets a seat at the table, how do you get a seat at the table, and what will you sacrifice to get there?”

Bibb will play Dinah, a lovely but vulnerable member of the high society.

Bibb can next be seen starring in God’s Favorite Idiot opposite Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone as well as the Lionsgate film About My Father opposite Robert DeNiro and Sebastian Maniscalco.

Neve Campbell Joins Peacock’s TWISTED METAL Series

Neve Campbell (Scream, The Lincoln Lawyer) is the latest to join the cast of Peacock‘s Twisted Metal series. She joins the previously cast Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, and Thomas Haden Church.

The series will center on a “motor-mouthed outsider John Doe (Mackie) who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, Sweet Tooth.”

There’s no information on who Campbell is playing, but we have details on all of the other actors and the characters they play!

Mackie portrays John Doe,” a smart ass, motor-mouthed Milkman who talks as fast as he drives, facing savage vehicles of destruction as he delivers much needed supplies from one post apocalyptic settlement to another. With no memory of his family or past, John’s only goal is survival, until he gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true.”

Church will play Agent Stone, “a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgements. Agent Stone will stop at nothing to bring law and order back to the Divided States of America, and will kill anyone in his path who defies his power.”

Beatriz plays Quiet, “a ferocious, badass car thief who acts purely on instinct – you couldn’t stop her any more than a manhole could stop a volcano. Coming from a community that oppressed her into silence, Quiet’s wish is to find her place in this dark, chaotic world. But when she becomes clouded by her need for revenge, Quiet forms an unlikely, antagonistic bond with John Doe.”

Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith is developing the series, which is based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland). It’s said to be a high-octane action-comedy. Will Arnett is also a producer.

The Creator of SQUID GAME Is Developing a Satire Based on the Show’s Popularity

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is developing a satire project about the creation of Netflix’s Squid Game and the popularity of the show. The series is titled The Best Show on the Planet, and it makes complete sense that the guy who created Squid Game would want to tell a story like this.

The Korean filmmaker revealed the news during an interview for Deadline’s Disruptors Magazine. Hwang said the show is in the early stages of development but revealed that the “satirical comedy would be a reflection on Squid Game’s overnight success, based on his personal experience of being thrust into the limelight.”

It was pretty crazy to see how the show exploded and how popular it became. It took ten years to get this series made and almost every studio turned it down until Netflix came along and saw the potential. All those other studios were left scratching their heads. It just goes to show, you never know what will hit.

The story centers on hundreds of cash-strapped players who accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting cash prize awaits, but there are deadly high stakes. Hwang Dong-hyuk is currently developing Season 2 of the series and will also be working on Season 3.

I’m actually more interested in what he will do with this satire show instead of the upcoming seasons of Squid Game.

Anne Heche, Dermot Mulroney, and McKaley Miller Starring in Horror Thriller FULL RIDE

Anne Heche (Donnie Brasco, The Brave), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Family Stone), and McKaley Miller (Ma, 9-1-1: Lone Star) are headlining the upcoming horror thriller Full Ride. The film, which just wrapped production in Georgia, is directed by Jerren Lauder (The Inhabitant) and Beth Hanna (The Reappearance).

“The film centers on the straight-edge Eden (Miller), who after being waitlisted at Yale, attends a coveted ‘Heaven and Hell’ party, in the hopes of receiving a letter of recommendation from the wealthy parents of her well-connected classmate. But things aren’t what they seem and the party quickly turns into a fight for her life.”

Executive producers Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman released the following statement about the film:

Full Ride is a chilling critique of the politics surrounding college admissions while simultaneously providing plenty of suspense. Anchored by knockout performances from McKaley, Anne, and Dermot and led by an impressive filmmaking duo, we’re thrilled to be able to take audiences on this exhilarating ride.”

This sounds like a strange original story that could end up being an intriguing thriller. Full Ride is expected to hit theaters early in 2023. Are you looking forward to checking it out?

Wild Full Trailer For George MIller’s THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING

Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller is back with an epic-looking new film he’s directed titled Three Thousand Years of Longing. It’s so great to see Miller has made another movie and it looks like it’s going to be a very wild and adventurous movie-going experience. I’m totally digging what I’m seeing! It looks like Miller had a lot of fun with this movie and I’m totally in for the ride!

The movie stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, and it’s an epic fantasy romance film that revolves around a genie. The film is based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S. Byatt, and this is the synopsis:

Dr Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) is an academic – content with life and a creature of reason. While in Istanbul attending a conference, she happens to encounter a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.

This presents two problems. First, she doubts that he is real and second, because she is a scholar of story and mythology, she knows all the cautionary tales of wishes gone wrong. The Djinn pleads his case by telling her fantastical stories of his past. Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both.

While a lot of us are fans of Miller’s Mad Max films, Miller has called this his anti-Mad Max movie explaining: “One thing I can tell you; it’s not [another Fury Road]. It’s a movie that is very strongly visual, but it’s almost the opposite of Fury Road. It’s almost all interior and there’s a lot of conversation in it. There are action scenes, but they are by the by and I guess you could say it’s the anti-Mad Max.”

Three Thousand Years of Longing will be released in theaters on August 31, 2022.

Netflix has released the first 8-minutes of Stranger Things 4 and it dives into Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) dark past while at Hawkins National Laboratories. It’s actually pretty intense and brutal. I won’t say any more than that. If you want to watch it, you can check it out below.

The new season’s cast includes Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), Brett Gelman (Murray), Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler) with Matthew Modine (Dr. Brenner) and Paul Reiser (Dr. Owens).

Amazon’s Live-Action SHE-RA Series Will Be Helmed by WATCHMEN Director Nicole Kassell

Amazon is producing a live-action She-Ra series, and it’s just been announced that Nicole Kassell has been hired to direct. She has worked on several high-profile shows over the years including Watchmen, The Leftovers, The Americans, Castle Rock, and The Baby.

DreamWorks Animation, who developed the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, will serve as an executive producer on the live-action series. It’s been explained that this live-action version of She-Ra will be a “new, standalone story and will not be connected to the animated show.”

In the original animated series, She-Ra’s real name is Princess Adora, “the long lost twin sister of Prince Adam, a.k.a He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by Hordak of the Evil Horde and taken to the planet Etheria, where she was mind-controlled into serving as a Force Captain of the Horde. He-Man eventually helped her break the mind control and gave her the Sword of Protection, which allows her to transform into She-Ra and grants her incredible power.”

There’s no information on how the story for this series will be handled or if He-Man will even factor into it. Regardless, I’m curious to see what the creative team is planning for this thing. Kassell will direct and executive produce the pilot episode should it go forward. There’s no writer is currently attached.

Is anyone excited about this? Do you think Amazon will produce an epic She-Ra series?

JOHN WICK Writer Derek Kolstad Developing a New Dramatic Thriller ACOLYTE

Rivulet Films has picked up the rights to the dramatic thriller Acolyte, an original script from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad. The story is a longtime passion project for Kolstad and follows Robert Miller (aka Acolyte) who returns home to find his home ransacked and his wife Helen missing, along with top secret files from her harrowing NGO work in Syria.

He moves with an intense skill and determination that belies his everyman appearance, assembling his highly classified and long-disbanded team Athena, Helios, Talos, Hades, Cerberus, Icarus and Hermes to execute a most lethal operation: rescuing Helen and bringing hell to her captors and their corrupt political allies.

The film’s producers, Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill said of the project:

“In Acolyte, Derek has delivered the perfect follow-up franchise to John Wick and the ensemble of amazing characters he has intricately woven throughout the script offer us an endless array of stories to tell for many years to come.”

This sounds like many films we’ve seen over the years, like Taken, and Nobody, among others. Hopefully this story will be different and a step above what we’ve seen before. With Kolstad writing, there’s a good chance this could turn out alright. Acolyte is set to be fast-tracked into production with more news on director and cast to come.

REACHER Season 2 Will Tell the Story of Lee Childs’ BAD LUCK AND TROUBLE

The first season of Amazon’s Reacher was a hell of a great show! Alan Ritchson is perfect in the role of Jack Reacher and he recently confirmed that Season 2 of the series will follow the events of Lee Childs’ book Bad Luck and Trouble.

The actor shared the news on Twitter recently featuring a photo of himself holding up the novel and pointing out a couple of lines from its pages. “O’Donnell put his hand in his pocket and came out with his brass knuckles. Ceramic knuckles, technically.” He also revealed that Season 2 will start shooting this fall.

The official logline for season 2 reads: “When the members of Reacher’s old military unit start turning up dead, Reacher has just one thing on his mind – revenge.”

Here’s the story description from the book:

From a helicopter high above the California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night. On the streets of Portland, Jack Reacher is pulled out of his wandering life and plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends . . . and the people he once trusted with his life.

Reacher is the ultimate loner—no phone, no ties, no address. But a woman from his old military unit has found him using a signal only the eight members of their elite team would know. Then she tells him a terrifying story about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his team, scrambling to unravel the sudden disappearance of two other comrades. But Reacher won’t give up—because in a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they’d better be ready for what comes right back at them.

Its also been announced that Maria Sten is set to come back and Frances Neagley, which makes sense as she plays a significant role in the book. Chris Webster, Hugh Thompson, Harvey Guillén, Kristin Kreuk, Currie. Graham, Marc Bendavid, Willie C. Carpenter, Maxwell Jenkins, and Bruce McGill round out the first season’s supporting cast.
