Jason Statham Set to Star in New Action Thriller Film Project

Jason Statham has landed another starring role in a new untitled action-thriller, which comes from director Baltasar Kormákur (Everest, Two Guns).

In the film, Statham plays a character named Mason “who lives in isolation on a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl from the ocean in a terrible storm, he sets a chain of events in motion that brings a violent attack to his hideaway, forcing him back into the world to confront the ghosts of his past.”

Judging from this first information, there’s nothing different or unique about the story as it’s something we’ve seen a hundred times before. But, Statham tends to make fun flicks, so lets see how it turns out!

The film is set up at Black Bear, and producer John Friedberg said in a statement: “The combination of Jason’s unparalleled skill in explosive action and track record in the genre, with Balt’s elevated, kinetic filmmaking style that always keeps character and story in the foreground is undeniable.”

He added: “We’re thrilled to bring this new action franchise to life with such talented partners as Balt and Jason and can’t wait to introduce the world to Michael Mason.”

The movie is set to start production in November in the UK and Iceland with production services and filming to take place at Kormákur’s RVK Studios facility in Reykjavik. The script comes from Ward Parry.

Donnie Yen Set To Star in JOHN WICK Spinoff Film Reprising His Role as Caine

Donnie Yen has officially signed on to star in a John Wick spinoff film in which he will reprise his role as Caine, the highly skilled, blind assassin who was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4.

The project is being developed by John Wick director and producer Chad Stahelski, who is overseeing the expansion of the John Wick universe at Lionsgate.

There are no details on the story, but it will continue Caine’s story arc after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. Caine was freed from his obligations to the High Table and there was a post-credits scene teasing the continuing story.

In the scene, Caine is shown stumbling through a city where he finds and embraces his daughter. Caine is still in danger, though, as Akira (Rina Sawayama), the former concierge of the Osaka Continental, has tracked him down and brandishes a knife before the film cuts to black.

Caine killed Akira’s father, so she is obviously out for revenge. I imagine the story for the spinoff film will pick up from there.

Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said in a statement: “From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an inedible mark and had fans asking for more.

“The John Wick universe that Chad, Basil, Erica, and Keanu have built offers a tapestry of fascinating characters brought to life by the most extraordinary performers, and we’re excited to have one of the world’s biggest superstars on board to continue this journey.”

Yen talked about his experience with John Wick: Chapter 4 calling it “extraordinary,” and said that “the reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil, and Erica push themselves to create action, fights, and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story, and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”

The Script is being written by Robert Askins (The Umbrella Academy and The Son) and it’s set to shoot in Hong Kong next year.

Ballerina is the next John Wick project to be released and that is coming on June 6, 2025.

Carrie-Anne Moss Will Join Arnold Schwarzenegger in FUBAR Season 2

Carrie-Anne Moss is set to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Season 2 of the Netflix action comedy series Fubar. She will take on the role of a former East German spy, “who has a passionate history with Schwarzenegger’s CIA operative.”

The first season of the show was a lot of fun and it was a huge hit for the streaming service. I’m looking forward to seeing what the second season will deliver! Moss is going to make a great addition to the cast!

The first season of Fubar follows CIA operative Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) who discovers a family secret that pulls him back into the field and delays his retirement plans. He’s “forced to go back into the field for one last job, FUBAR tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action, and humor.”

In Season 2 of the series, “After his last mission in saving another operative — who just so happened to be his daughter — he’s back and face-to-face with new villains. This one is an old flame from Luke’s past who threatens to destroy the world… if she doesn’t destroy his life first.”

Nick Santora (Reacher, Prison Break) is creator, showrunner and executive producer of Fubar. Schwarzenegger also serves as an executive producer.

Schwarzenegger previously said of the show: “Everywhere I go, people ask me when I’m going to do another big action comedy like True Lies. Well, here it is. FUBAR will kick your ass and make you laugh — and not just for two hours. You get a whole season.”

Santora said: “FUBAR is, by far, the most surreal project of my career. I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films — I’d hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen — so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me.

“The thing I always marveled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass … that’s why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! And it is all that – and more. I’d love to elaborate with more details, but, sorry, it’s classified.”

Fubar also stars Monica Barbaro as Emma Brunner, Fortune Feimster as Roo, Jay Baruchel as Carter, Aparna Brielle as Tina, Andy Buckley as Donnie, Barbara Eve Harris as Dot, Gabriel Luna as Boro, Milan Carter as Barry, Fabiana Udenio as Tally, and Travis Van Winkle as Aldon.

WICKED Gets a New Trailer For Fans To Enjoy

Universal Pictures released a new trailer for its upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. This offers fans their best look yet at the Jon M. Chu-directed movie and it looks like he’s made a beautiful film.

The three-time Tony-award winning musical was adapted from a book by Gregory Maguire, and it’s a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It tells the story of how the green-skinned Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as the sorceress Glinda’s trajectory to becoming known as the Good Witch.

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths.

Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future.

Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The film also stars Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).

Chu is directing the two-part film, from a script written by the stage show’s book writer Winne Holzman and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz.

When talking about the two-part film, Chu said: “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”

Wicked: Part 1 will make its debut exclusively in theaters on Friday, November 27th, 2024.

First Images for Netflix’s TERMINATOR ZERO Anime Series; Described as a Sci-Fi Horror

Netflix has released a collection of first-look images for its upcoming anime series Terminator Zero, which is set in the same universe as James Cameron’s film franchise, but the Connor family is not part of the storyline.

Terminator Zero comes from Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Mattson Tomlin (Project Power, The Batman II), and he explains in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the series will have the same kind of sci-fi horror vibe as Cameron’s original movie.

Tomlin shared: “There’s a completely valid version of the Terminator franchise where the Terminator is synonymous with Jason and Freddy, where he is this unrelenting serial killer. There’s a little bit of Friday the 13th in here. There’s a little bit of Michael Myers in here.”

The description of the series reads: “2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity.

“Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity.

“As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future which forever alters the fate of his three children.”

The anime comes from Japanese animation studio Production IG (Ghost in the Shell). The first season will consist of eight-episodes and it will be unleashed on Netflix August 29, 2024.

SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW Gets a Summer 2026 Release Date

DC Studios will release Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in theaters on June 26th, 2026. This will be the second DCU movie to be released after James Gunn’s Superman.

It was previously reported that the movie would go into production after Gunn is finished shooting Superman. So, Supergirl will be the next DC film to go into production.

Ana Nogueira is writing the screenplay for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Craig Gillespie (Cruella and I, Tonya) is set to direct Woman of Tomorrow. Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) will take on the role of Kara Zor-El.

It was previously explained that the movie is “based on Tom King’s wonderful comic book series that came out just last year… This is a very different type of Super Girl.”

in this film “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time is an infant versus super girl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She’s not exactly the Supergirl we are used to seeing.”

In that story from King’s comic: “Kara Zor-El has seen some epic adventures over the years, but she now finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. What was it all for?”

Wherever she goes, “people only see her through the lens of Superman’s fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there.”

She wants revenge, “and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.”

I’m curious to see how this movie turns out.

Teaser Trailer For Max’s DUNE: PROPHECY Series – “Sisterhood Above All”

Max has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, which tells another story from author Frank Herbert, a story that takes place 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides.

It looks like a great series that has the same level of production value as the Dune film directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is a producer on the series.

The series follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

Emily Watson and Olivia Williams will portray Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, respectively, the formidable Harkonnen Sisters, who have risen to power in the Sisterhood.

The series is “designed to co-exist” with the Dune films, and the story is told “through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit.

“Given extraordinary abilities by their mastery of the body and the mind, the Bene Gesserit expertly weave through the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing plans of their own that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune.”

The cast for the series also includes Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Raised By Wolves), Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (The Colony), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist), Faoileann Cunningham (The Northman), Aoife Hinds (Normal People), Chloe Lea (Foundation), Mark Strong (Shazam!, 1917), Jade Anouka (Last Christmas, His Dark Materials), Jodhi May, and Chris Mason (Riverdale, Broadchurch).

The series is written by Alison Schapker, who is also the showrunner. John Spaihts, who co-wrote the scripts for the Dune movie, also worked on the series, and Johan Renck (Chernobyl) will direct the premiere episode and executive produce.

Spaihts previously talked about the series, saying: “The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me. Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series.”

Dune: Prophecy is expected to launch in the Fall of 2024.

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Gets 2025 Release Date, Episode Count, and Footage Shown

Marvel Studios has announced that Daredevil: Born Again is set to be released in March 2025 on Disney+, and the first season of the series will consist of nine episodes.

When the project was originally announced, Marvel said there would be 18 episodes, but only nine episodes have been shot, It’s expected the other nine episodes will come with a second part.

It was previously reported that showrunner Dario Scardapane would be working on the scripts for the second half of the show throughout most of 2024. The show will most likely be called Daredevil: Born Again – Part One and Daredevil: Born Again – Part Two.

A new logo for the series was also shared along with a trailer that was shown to select members of the press at Disney Upfront 2024. Thanks to IGN we have a description of the footage that was shown.

The trailer shows Matt Murdock “donning the iconic Daredevil suit while narrating that the ‘entire system is against you… it’s often Davis vs. Goliath.’

“It includes among other things glimpses of Kingpin, Foggy, and Karen, the latter two who were confirmed to be returning earlier this year.

“At the end of the trailer, following a brief action sequence, Murdock is asked ‘what kind of a lawyer are you.’ ‘A really good one,” he quips as he puts on a broken pair of his familiar glasses.”

The new series is reportedly inspired by the Devil’s Reign storyline, which explores the power dynamics between Kingpin and the vigilantes who stand up against him. The story revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who becomes the Mayor of New York City.

In this arc, Kingpin uses his newfound political influence to launch a crackdown on vigilantes, making their activities illegal. This leads to a fierce confrontation between Daredevil and Kingpin, with the latter using all his resources to hunt down and eliminate Daredevil and his allies.

Vincent D’Onofrio previously talked about the project, saying: “During our restart of all the creative on Daredevil: Born Again, all the creatives got together and said, ‘Look, this is how we’ve got to do it now. So we are for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original Daredevil, and that’s a great thing.”

He continued: “It brings in a lot of cool stories and all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons. So we now get to start this Born Again situation with all of that history behind us and the outcome of all that history. So we’re all talking about Daredevil: Born Again in those terms now.”

The series also stars Sandrine Holt Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher, Vanessa Fisk, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita LevievaNikki M. JamesMichael GastonArty Froushan, and Clark Johnson in undisclosed roles. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson will also reprise their roles of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. Wilson Bethel is reprising his role as Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye.

Daredevil: Born Again is currently being developed by directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on both Moon Knight and Loki.
