ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Almost Featured Darth Vader Wreaking Havoc on The Beach

rogue-one-a-star-wars-story-almost-featured-darth-vader-wreaking-havoc-on-the-beach-social.jpg

One of the most epic and memorable scenes from director Gareth EdwardsRogue One: A Star Wars Story is when Darth Vader showed up to brutally tear through one Rebel after another during the final few minutes of the film. The reaction from the fans during this sequence of events was thrilling and so much fun!

Well, it turns out there was another scene in the film that was nearly included that would have been awesome to see as well. In an earlier draft of the script, Vader was going to see himself battling a much larger army of Rebels on the beaches of Scarif. The info came from the film’s screenwriter Gary Whitta, who said in a tweet:

Rebel ground troops bunkered in around the Imperial comms tower on Scarif, stormtroopers can’t break through to get to Jyn who’s on her way to transmit plans. Vader says “put me on that beach.” Carnage ensues. You ended up seeing something like that in the corridor scene though.

I would have seriously loved to see that sequence of events play out! I’m sure that the creative team has their reasons for not including it, but damn… I can only imagine how badass that sequence would have been!

Before the final act of the film was reworked, the original version featured the heroes racing across the beaches of Scarif while the Empire’s forces waged war on them. That all changed, though, and the action all ended up on the satellite tower.

As much as I loved Rogue One, I would have liked to see how this alternate version of the film would have played out. How about you?

Shang-Chi, also known as The Master of Kung Fu, was first introduced in the pages of Special Marvel Edition #15 back in 1973 after they’d failed to obtain the rights to the then-popular TV series Kung Fu, which starred David Carradine. A master of fighting, Shang-Chi eventually gains the ability to create an infinite amount of replicas of himself. Quentin Tarantino Confirms He Is Slowing Down in His ‘Third Act’ and ‘Leaning a Little More Into the Literary’ as He Enters Fatherhood

quentin-tarantino-confirms-he-is-slowing-down-in-his-third-act-and-leaning-a-little-more-into-the-literary-as-he-enters-fatherhood-social.jpg

Director Quentin Tarantino has turned out his ninth feature film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is not only one of my favorite films of all time, but has garnered nominations for Best Motion Picture and Best Director, alongside eight other nominations in the upcoming Academy Awards, as well as already winning the Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.

While Tarantino has famously said he would like to make ten films before he retires and has talked about a few different projects, he has switched courses a bit in light of his 2018 marriage and having his first child on the way. He confirmed such in a recent interview on the ABCNews interview show Popcorn With Peter Travers. He talked about how the whole basis of who he is as a filmmaker is someone who sits down in front of blank paper and creates something that didn’t exist before. He expounded, saying:

“So there is this writer aspect of me. So I kind of like that now it’s time for the third act, to just lean a little bit more into the literary, which would be good as a new father, as a new husband. I wouldn’t be grabbing my family and yanking them to Germany or yanking them to Sri Lanka or wherever the next story takes place. I can be a little bit more of a homebody and become a little bit more of a man of letters.”

He went on to talk about that illusive tenth film, for which many different ideas have been tossed around, but ultimately doesn’t have an official plan yet.

“Frankly though, I’m actually really kind of excited about the idea that I really have no idea what that tenth movie is going to be. It’s a very open idea.”

That is pretty exciting to me, too. For a while he said he wanted a film in each genre, so it felt like his final film would have to fit into that mold. Then he talked about doing a Star Trek film, but has since said he passed his idea along, and he won’t be the one making it. He has also talked about doing a Kill Bill Vol. 3, which I would be down with as well, but I am most excited about seeing something that is just completely original, with no expectations. It may be interesting to see what he creates after becoming a father as well. I’m all for him slowing down and enjoying his family, as long as we get to see his work again someday.

What would you like to see from Tarantino in the future?

Blumhouse is Developing a Docuseries About The Real-Life Satanic Panic of the 1970s

Blumhouse Productions, who has found a lot of success in making horror movies, is set to develop a new docuseries titled Fall River. The show will tell the true story of a town that was living through the horror and paranoia of Satan worshippers in the community during the 70s. There was a huge Satanic-panic sweeping the nation in the 70s and this was a part of it.

Deadline describes the series as follows: “1979 – Fall River, MA – home to the notorious Lizzie Borden, three young women were killed in a series of brutal murders. Police alleged a satanic cult was practicing human sacrifice. The cult leader, a man named Carl Drew, was captured and sent to prison for life without parole. Twenty years after the trial, the lead investigator became so haunted by inconsistencies in the stories that he re-investigated his own case after he retired. Evidence surfaced bringing the entire story into question. This documentary series will tell shocking true story of a town caught in the grips of the Satanic Panic, with new witnesses and evidence that shed light on murders that were thought to have been solved.”

This Satanic panic was a fascinating time in history. It was like the Salem Witch trials all over again. I’m extremely interested in this project and I’m looking forward to watching it. Is this something you’d be interested in watching?

There’s no release date yet, but Fall River will debut on EPIX.

Hugo Weaving Says He Was Up for Returning as Red Skull, But Marvel Reps Were ‘Impossible’ to Negotiate With

red skull.jpg

Actor Hugo Weaving, known for his role in The Lord of the Rings films, as well as Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull, in Captain America: The First Avenger, was all set to return for future films as the villain Red Skull in future MCU films. But the Red Skull who appeared in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame was voiced by Ross Marquand. So why didn’t Weaving return?

According to Weaving in an interview with timeout, there was some major miscommunication between the actor and the MCU executives. When asked about the fact that the filmmakers said they did try to get Weaving to return for the final films, he explained:

‘Oh, yeah. I loved playing that character Red Skull – it was a lot of fun. We were all obliged to sign up for three pictures: I was thinking [Red Skull] probably wouldn’t come back in “Captain America” but he may well come back as a villain in “The Avengers”. By then, they’d pushed back on the contracts that we agreed on and so the money they offered me for “The Avengers” was much less than I got for the very first one, and this was for two films. And the promise when we first signed the contracts was that the money would grow each time. They said: “It’s just a voice job, it’s not a big deal”. I actually found negotiating with them through my agent impossible. And I didn’t really wanna do it that much. But I would have done it.’

That’s so disappointing to hear! He started the character, and he should have been able to see it through. I can understand both sides of the argument. The people who made the contracts didn’t foresee the arc of the character, and how the role was going to change to a smaller part in which they would only need a voice over. But Weaving had been promised something, so it’s not his fault that that’s what he expected.

In the end, Marquand is a fantastic talent, so the part turned out well. But it’s always too bad when an actor can’t see the role they began from start to end.

Michael Bay Directed a Scene in BAD BOYS FOR LIFE and If You’ve Seen The Film You Know Which One

michael-bay-directed-a-scene-in-bad-boys-for-life-and-if-youve-seen-the-film-you-know-which-one-social.jpg

Bad Boys For Life wasn’t the best film of the franchise, but it was still an action-packed, fun movie to watch! The film was directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi and they did a pretty decent job at keeping up with the energy that Michael Bay pumped into the previous films.

Turns out Michael Bay did come back to direct one scene in the movie and if you couldn’t tell, it was the one that involved his amusing cameo appearance in the film. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Fallah and El Arbi explained how Bay directing his own gliding 360-degree shot all came about:

Adil El Arbi: We were looking for a cameo as a part that he’d play. Maybe it was a guy that was going to get killed in the movie? There are two places where we play ourselves in the movie. Bilall is hitting on Rita, and my car is getting stolen by Will [Smith]. So both of these scenes were options for Michael Bay.

Bilall Fallah: And then we had the idea of the MC. We were thinking, ‘Okay, we got to make it a real Michael Bay shot.’ So the camera goes 360 around him.

El Arbi: And he turns counterclockwise with the shot!

Fallah: So it’s a real Michael Bay moment with Michael Bay. And he directed it himself. We were just, like, watching him direct his own shot.

El Arbi: Yeah, of course! When Michael Bay is there on set. he just explains the steady camera, how to do it, and he knows how to turn. We didn’t tell him anything. … This shot will be studied in film school, because it’s super meta!

It sounds like it was a fun experience for them to watch Bay step in to direct himself during production. The scene ended up being the perfect cameo and it also got a good laugh from the audience.

Bad Boys For Life has been doing great at the box office and Sony Pictures is already moving forward with developing a sequel. I wonder if Bay will show up in that one as well. Hell, it’s not confirmed who will direct the next movie, so Maybe Bay could come back to direct the whole thing! While I think fans would love that, Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arb proved they could handle the franchise.

What did you think of Bay’s cameo in the film?

Trailer For The Niagara Falls-Set Mystery Thriller DISAPPEARANCE AT CLIFTON HILL with David Cronenberg

It’s a rare thing to see director David Cronenberg get in front of the camera as an actor in a movie, but he has a role in a new Niagara Falls-set mystery thriller titled Disappearance at Clifton Hill. It tells a dark, moody, and fascinating story about a missing boy and woman who is digging deep to find the truth about what happened to the boy. Here’s the full synopsis, which offers more details:

Following the death of her mother, Abby (Tuppence Middleton), a troubled young woman with a checkered past, returns to her hometown of Niagara Falls and the dilapidated motel her family used to run. While there, she finds herself drawn once again into a mystery that has haunted her since childhood: what happened to the young boy she saw being violently abducted in the woods twenty-five years ago? As Abby sets out to find out the truth, she must confront both a shocking, long-buried conspiracy that runs as deep as the falls themselves as well as her own inner demons. Bristling with an air of surreal menace, this mood-drenched thriller is a tantalizing psychological puzzle box that unfolds in the hallucinatory realm between reality and perception.

Disappearance at Clifton Hill sounds like a movie that I’d enjoy watching because I like these kinds of stories and the film is set to hit theaters and VOD on February 28, 2020.
