The highly anticipated anime film will be released next month and is the ninth project for Hosoda following his 2018 Oscar-nominated film Mirai. Belle has been described as a touching, coming-of-age story that’s told in a fantasy-filled visual style. The film follows 17-year-old Suzu, a student living in a rural village with her father. After one day entering “LJ,” a virtual world for 5 billion members on the internet, she meets a world-famous singer and embarks on a journey of adventures.

Belle is already one of the most anticipated anime films of the year, but thanks to its billing it’s being compared to some classics. The film is set to bring together a ton of top talent from Japan, including Jin Kim, a character designer who has worked on classic Disney films like Frozen and Moana, and Eric Wong, a British architect who helped create the world of “LJ” in the film.

Similar to some of Hosoda’s previous works, like Summer Wars or Digimon, it will explore humanity’s relationship with a virtual world. Studio Chizu says it is “…a tale of hope and courage that will be an inspiration for everyone around the world.”

Belle is scheduled for a July 16 release in Japan.

Full Trailer for BOSCH Season 7 – The Fight For Justice Ends Here

full-trailer-for-bosch-season-7-the-fight-for-justice-ends-here.jpg

Bosch is the best police/detective series on TV, and it’s coming to an end with the upcoming seventh season. If you haven’t watched this show yet, you’ve got to jump in and experience it!

For those of you who have watched the series and are awaiting the final season, Amazon has released a full trailer that offers us a glimpse at what this next story will entail, and it looks great!

The series stars Titus Welliver as homicide Detective Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector as Detective Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino as Lt. Grace Billets, Madison Lintz as Maddie Bosch, and Lance Reddick as Chief Irvin Irving.

This next season is based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, in this story, “Harry Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, stands trial for the fatal shooting of a serial murder suspect. A cold case involving the remains of a missing boy forces Bosch to confront his past. As daring recruit, Julia Brasher (Annie Wersching), catches his eye, and departmental politics heat up, Bosch will pursue justice at all costs.”

While this is the final season of Bosch, there is a spinoff series coming with Titus Welliver, Mimi Rogers, and Madison Lintz all on board to reprise their roles from the original series. That series will follow Harry Bosch, “as he embarks on the next chapter of his career and finds himself working with his one-time enemy and top-notch attorney Honey “Money” Chandler, played by Rogers. With a deep and complicated history between this unlikely pair, they must work together to do what they can agree on – finding justice.”

Bosch Season 7 is set to premiere on Amazon on June 25th, and I can wait to see how this intense and thrilling story plays out.

In a competitive situation, Lionsgate has landed rights to bestselling author Steven Rowley’s new novel The Guncle which was published last week on May 25 by the Putnam imprint of Penguin Random House. Rowley will adapt and executive produce the feature adaptation.

By turns hilarious and profound, Rowley’s new novel follows a reclusive, once-famous gay television star who takes his young niece and nephew into his Palm Springs home after their mother dies suddenly, introducing them to his outsized life and unique wisdom and bringing about healing for all three.

Erin Westerman, president of Production for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said: “We’re always drawn to stories about people finding connection or growth where they least expect it. This is a fresh, unexpected, and heartwarming story of healing grief – a poignant look at family that feels of this moment. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Kristin and Steven and Rob on this wonderful story that will have everyone wishing they had a Guncle too.”

“For anyone who’s ever had a guncle – or any uncle they love deeply but can’t imagine as a parent – this movie is for you. Steven’s novel is equally laugh-out-loud funny as it is insightful, and he has great ideas about how to adapt it for the screen,” added producer Kristin Burr.

More about the novel: Patrick O’Hara, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant—from a comfortable distance. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, out of his league.

So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian—and taking them into his Palm Springs home. Despite having a set of “Guncle Rules” ready to go, Patrick has no idea what to expect, having spent years barely holding on after the loss of his great love, a stalled acting career, and a life not-so-suited to a six- and a nine-year-old. Quickly realizing that parenting–even if temporary–isn’t solved with treats and jokes, Patrick’s eyes are opened to a new sense of responsibility, and the realization that, sometimes, even being larger than life means you’re unfailingly human.

Kristin Burr (Cruella, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) will produce through her Burr! Productions. Rob Weisbach will also produce, while Jessica Friedman from Burr! Productions will co-produce. The project will be overseen at Lionsgate by James Myers and Scott O’Brien.

Rowley’s two previous bestsellers are also in development for feature adaptation —  Lily and The Octopus at Amazon Studios and The Editor at 20th Century Studios.

Alice Braga Joins Ben Affleck in Robert Rodriguez Thriller HYPNOTIC Due to Start Shooting in September

alice braga queen of the south.jpg

Alice Braga (I Am Legend, Elysium, Queen of the South) has joined the cast of the thriller pic Hypnotic that is being directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Alita: Battle Angel). Braga will star opposite Ben Affleck in the action flick that “will follow a detective who becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program while investigating a string of high-end crimes.”

The movie was written by Rodriguez and Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island). Production is due to start in September in Austin, Texas, after the film’s original start date in April 2020 was delayed due to the pandemic and then insurance issues. This sounds like a solid story and crew, so I’m interested in seeing where this movie goes.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 Gets Release Date & Trailer

It’s been just over a year since the release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s last DLC, but Bandai Namco is back again with another drop, as the third batch of new content for the game now has a release date.

MORE: PlayStation Looking to ‘Grow and Strengthen’ PlayStation Studios

In a brand new trailer for the game, Bandai Namco has announced that the final DLC for the game is launching on June 11, and will be called Trunks – The Warrior of Hope. The DLC will tell an alternate story of the anime, in which Goku succumbs to his heart disease and where most of the Earth defenders have fallen to the cyborgs. In this world plunged into a state of constant fear and chaos, it’ll be up to Trunks to act as humanity’s last hope.

Check out the trailer below:

This marks the first time that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s DLC has gone back in time, as the first two DLC packs have dealt with stories that took place in the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F movies. Now, though, fans of the original Dragon Ball Z anime will get to play as some of their favorite characters in brand new moments. Better yet, it’s out very soon, so there’s little wait left.

Review: LEGO MASTERS Season 2 Has a Solid Start

lego_masters_s2e1.jpg

LEGO Masters is back. The first episode of the second season aired this week on Fox and can now be watched on Hulu in case you missed it. Once again, we have 12 pairs competing for $100,000 and the title of LEGO Masters. Will Arnett returns to host and executive produce with Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard returning to judge the contestants. How does it compare though? You can watch new episodes of LEGO Masters on Fox every Tuesday at 8 PM ET/PT.

In short, the show is still a lot of fun to watch. I love the energy that Arnett and the judges bring as well as what the teams bring. I love watching the judges talk to the contestants and even provide some feedback, tips, and even reminders. Arnett is just so fun to watch as he talks to the groups. The builds are just as ambitious as ever and it’s great to see people come up with these ideas and try to execute them. Of course, in the premiere, a lot of people learned just how hard it can be to please the judges and how they might need to adjust some of their ambitious dreams.

One thing that is surely going to be a little intimidating is that the brothers Mark & Steven have actually competed against and beat season 1 winner Tyler before. That’s a very high bar that is sure to set expectations very high. That being said, in the premiere, we still don’t know too much about all of the contestants because there are so many pairs. We get a small snapshot of each of the teams, but we’ll get to learn about them more as the season progresses.

There aren’t any pairs that bother me yet which is a good sign. There are surely some that haven’t made an impression yet, but I’m excited to see which teams become my favorites. If you enjoyed the first season of LEGO Masters, the second season appears to be just as good.

PlayStation Looking to ‘Grow and Strengthen’ PlayStation Studios

PlayStation Looking to 'Grow and Strengthen' PlayStation Studios

Microsoft’s first-party stable of developers has exploded over the past few years, culminating with the huge $7.5-billion purchase of Bethesda in September 2020. While it had more studios to start with, Sony hasn’t quite kept up with Microsoft in this regard, even after buying Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games in August 2019. However, it still seems that Sony is looking to acquire more teams, according to Head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst.

RELATED: PlayStation Announces Uncharted 4 PC Version

Hulst described the mantra of growing its internal teams and relationships in an extended podcast version of the Q&A that revealed that the next God of War would be coming in 2022. When prompted if more studio acquisitions were being explored, Hulst spoke about how Sony is trying to expand its internal roster of teams.

“Well, yes,” he stated. “We’re exploring options all the time. While we’re incredibly lucky to have the bench strength of studios that we have, in my mind, some of the best studios in the world, we’re always looking to continually grow and strengthen.”

And these potential partnerships aren’t just relegated to new or veteran teams and sometimes they’re not even business-related conversations.

“We’re growing PlayStation Studios so we’re constantly in conversation with developers whether they’re established studios or new teams,” Hulst continued. “Sometimes these conversations are just interesting exchanges about games or about the industry at large and other times, we are looking to take the conversation in the direction of a partnership, which can then take several forms.”

He then went on to talk about Insomniac Games and how PlayStation has been working with the studio for decades before 2019 made it “the right time for that relationship to progress.” And given the success and prowess of the team, Hulst said that made it even more worth it to more heavily invest and support them and “let them grow.” He also said that relationships don’t always need that long to prosper, relaying how Sony acquired Guerrilla Games (which Hulst co-founded) just four years after signing the deal to develop the first Killzone.

Hulst was quick to emphasize that these deals would have to benefit all parties. In his eyes, PlayStation Studios would have to “help and add value to those studios” while the developer in questions would need to add something to PlayStation’s portfolio and “ecosystem as a whole.” He cited that one of the PS5’s biggest strengths was how easy it was to develop for because it was made with developer input. And being able to give that kind of feedback was valuable, implying that a first-party studio would likely have to give knowledge as well as games.

Earlier in the interview, Hulst also talked about partnerships with developers like FromSoftware and Kojima Productions and compared them to Sony’s internal teams, saying that “there really is no difference” as they are “all PlayStation Studios.” Given how Hulst seems to look similarly at its internal teams and external partnerships, it’s unclear what option Sony is going to prioritize going forward with regards to Hulst’s words. Sony, after all, seems to be tracking down a bunch of third-party console exclusives from Deathloop to Ghostwire Tokyo to Forspoken in addition its exclusive first-party-developed games like Spider-Man, God of War, and Ratchet and Clank. Regardless, it looks like Sony is trying to boost its development, be it through these deals or through buying developers.
