In the previous episode of Netflix’s Unbelievable, Karen learned of a forensics textbook popular among rapists to avoid detection, and Marie quit her job. In Unbelievable Season 1 Episode 6, the investigation caught some breaks, and Marie took the plea deal.

Massey

Karen came back from Kansas with the textbook, but they were interrupted when Lilly arrived with a knife she found in her backyard. It was what the intruder used against her. She chastised the detectives for the sloppy police work, and Karen promised they would grid-search her property as well as the other victims’.

Grace’s husband had looked into James Massey and realized he was bad news. He went against the rules of his job and provided his file to Grace. Grace tried to collect DNA evidence from him by flirting with Massey at a bar. However, he knew who she was and that she was investigating him.

McCarthy

Frustrated with the lack of evidence, Karen and Grace met with some key law enforcement players and had nothing substantial. Thankfully, Elias explained that he found a white Mazda truck like on the Golden tape, and they had a suspect – Christopher McCarthy. They staked out the person’s address, and Karen tailed him when he left. They gathered DNA evidence from a diner mug. Grace and Taggart knocked on the door to check if it was clear. However, Chris McCarthy answered the door. Karen had been tailing his brother.

Marie’s plea deal required her to plead guilty for false reporting. All she had to do was a year of supervised probation and mandatory counseling and pay the court costs. Marie asked Judith to borrow $500. Judith was upset that she hadn’t told her that she’d quit her job. Marie explained what that the money was for her plea deal.

Feeling depressed about her case, Marie went to a convenience store to buy a forty. She asked a young guy to buy it for her, and the girl in his car asked her to join them. In the car, she drank the alcohol and smoked some weed. When they dropped Marie off at the apartment, it was 2AM, and Becca was waiting for her. Marie had violated the rules of her program and was kicked out. She would be staying with Judith temporarily.
