Sony pushes Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City two months
A little over a week after director Johannes Roberts revealed the full title of the video game film franchise reboot, Sony Pictures has announced that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be greeting fans a little late as it moves from a September to late November release.

Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland, with great evil brewing below the surface, and when that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever changed and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night. Returning to the terrifying roots of the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, fan and filmmaker Roberts brings the games of the billion dollar franchise and the most successful video game adaptation in history to life for a whole new generation of fans.

The ensemble roster for Welcome to Raccoon City will be led by Kaya Scodelairo (The Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (Black Sails) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) as William Birkin, Lily Gao (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Ada Wong, Chad Rook (The Flash) as Richard Aiken, Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) as Chief Brian Irons and Marina Mazepa as Lisa Trevor.
Most of the video game characters appeared in the original Resident Evil film franchise, with Ali Larter (Final Destination) starring as Claire, Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) starring as Chris, Johann Urb (Arrow) as Leon S. Kennedy, Sienna Guillory portraying Jill, Jason O’Mara and Shawn Roberts as Wesker, Li Bingbing as Ada and Jason Isaacs starring as Birkin. The prequel will mark the live-action debuts of Aiken, Chief Irons and Lisa.

Roberts is writing and directing the film with Robert Kulzer set to produce for Constantin Films, the studio behind the original franchise, alongside James Harris for Tea Shop Productions and Hartley Gorenstein with Constantin’s CEO Martin Moskowicz and Davis Film’s Victor Hadida attached to executive produce. Based on Capcom’s hugely popular video games, the Resident Evil movies have earned $1.2 billion worldwide to date, making it the highest-grossing film series to be based on a video game.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will hit theaters on November 24.
