Anthony Mackie Shares How He Learned About Falcon’s Story Arc in AVENGERS: ENDGAME From Chris Evans

When Anthony Mackie returned to reprise his role as Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon in Avengers: Endgame, he went into it not knowing much. In fact, he didn’t even know the fate of his character until Chris Evans excitedly told him!

If you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame yet…

Marvel Studios kept a very tight lid on story details so that nothing about this movie would leak out before it was released. Most of the cast didn’t even know what was going on and the only person who got a full copy of the script before they started shooting was Robert Downy Jr..

In a recent interview with IMDb, Anthony Mackie shared the experience he had when he found out that Captain America would be handing his shield over to Falcon at the end of the movie. That’s a huge deal for Mackie and he had no idea it was coming! So, imagine the surprise and excitement he felt when Evans told him.

Here’s how that went down:

“We were at his house and he goes, ‘You excited?’ And I go, ‘What are you talking about?’ and he goes, ‘You don’t know?’ He jumps up, runs out of the room and comes back in with the script.

“We cried. We drank. We laughed. I am very happy I got that moment with Chris, for him to not only pass me the shield, but to tell me it was happening. I am very happy I got that moment with Chris, for him to not only pass me the shield, but to tell me it was happening.”

That was obviously an extremely cool moment for these two friends to share and experience with each other.

I think a lot of fans saw the passing of the shield to Falcon coming, especially for those who are familiar with what happens in the comics. It was an exciting moment for fans and I’m looking forward seeing Falcon’s adventures continue in the new Disney+ series Falcon and Winter Soldier.
