Let’s Talk About WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY’RE DEAD #5

We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #5 is now out, concluding the first part of the story of the Vihaan II. I’m very interested to see what happens from here, but before we get to talking about it, this is your spoiler warning. The series is written by Al Ewing and with art by Simone Di Meo. You can purchase physical copies through your local comic shop or digital copies through outlets including comiXology (affiliate link), Google Play, iBooks, and Madefire.

After the tragedy that befell the crew of the Vihaan II, just as they discovered a brand new god on the outer edges of space, Captain Malik and Richter face off for the last time…but only one of them will survive…and the rest of the crew are faced with a shattering discovery that will change the fate of everyone in the universe forever.

Well, we finally learn the truth. Paula’s pissed because of the death of her fiancé, Malik’s brother Thierry, and she’s convinced it’s Malik’s fault. Malik explains that he didn’t plan on Thierry’s death and actually wanted to use the relationship to help make Paula a tool for their family as they did black market runs. I’m not sure that makes him much better and clearly Jason doesn’t seem to think too highly of Malik after this development as he and Ella finally leave without him. I was actually a little surprised by that, and I’m sure we’ll have a dramatic encounter in the future.

After Malik confesses his intentions to Paula, she ends up taking a tiny meteor to the head which kills her and Malik decides to take off in her ship. As he’s leaving, his systems seem to be struggling indicating critical oxygen levels and flashing a radiation warning. It then appears that the god they were near appears to wake up. What’s more is that we then cut over to another ship called the Lucky Seven, and the god they’re about to harvest also appears to wake up. This is only slightly terrifying.

I’m curious what the true nature of these beings is and how the universe will react. I’m sure that many people are going to try to slay them, but maybe I’m wrong. What do you think is in the cards for the Vihaan II? Will Malik survive?
