The Batman actress Jayme Lawson recently opened up about the new character that she is playing in the movie. Lawson takes on the role of Bella Real, a politician who is running to become mayor of Gotham City.

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, she talked about acting opposite of stars like Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, and Colin Farrell and how keeping her nerves calm was rough for her. When asked about that, she said, “I don’t think I did. I still haven’t. To be quite honest, I am bluffing every day.”

That aspect of the actress goes right along with the type of character that she’s playing, who is in a position where she is faking it till she makes it. Lawson goes on to say:

“And I think that ties in with my character. She’s gotta fake it till she makes it. She’s running up against the big dogs. And so there’s not much transformation that’s happening when I show up on set. I am surrounded by a lot of great talent and I’ve just gotta fake it. So I will be as nervous as can be, but I can’t let it be known. So I just do what I’ve gotta do. It’s working out so far, so that’s good.”

Some fans are speculating that the name of Laweon’s character could be an alias for a bigger reveal, but we’ll have to wait and see. It’ll be interesting to so if there’s more to her character than meets the eye.

The Batman will tell a dark noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. Reeves said that it’s going to tell a deep and psychological story. This will be a “year two” story for Batman that acknowledges his origin and how it’s still something that he’s “majorly struggling” with.

There will be a series of murders and crimes that start taking place in Gotham and as Batman investigates those things, they begin to reveal the darkness of Gotham City to him.

The film stars Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson. Gil Perez-Abraham (Orange is the New Black), Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), and Max Carver have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

The Batman is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
