Director M. Night Shyamalan has revealed the title of his next film will be Old and he also shared some intriguing poster art for it.

The film is said to be based on Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters’ graphic novel Sandcastle. Collider reports that the events of Old are set in motion when “a group of people find a dead body on a beach and slowly realize there is something unnatural happening on that beach.”

The Sandcastle graphic novel follows “a group of 13 people who aren’t able to leave a mysterious, secluded beach that hides a dark secret involving time.” This is referenced on the poster for the film. The graphic novel is described as “an existential horror story about the inevitability of death that plays like a Kafka-esque episode of The Twilight Zone or Lost.”

I’m not familiar with the graphic novel, but Old won’t be a straight adaptation of it. The film will be more inspired by the graphic novel.

Shyamalan reportedly received the novel as a Father’s Day gift and quickly picked up the rights to it because he loved the story so much.

The ensemble cast for the film includes Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), Thomasin McKenzie (True History of the Kelly Gang), Aaron Pierce (Krypton), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Abbey Lee (Lovecraft Country, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Tower), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Gold Digger, Jupiter Ascending), Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) and Ken Leung (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Inhumans, The Blacklist).

Old is now in production and is currently slated to hit theaters on July 23, 2021.
