Netflix has been pushing the marketing hard for its upcoming action-thriller The Old Guard. I guess they’re hoping that it’s a big hit because of its franchise potential. Today, we’ve got four new clips to share with you that offer some additional insight into the story and characters. The film stars Charlize Theron as a badass immortal warrior who leads of group of mercenaries who have been fighting to protect the world for centuries.
The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, and Beyond the Lights) is directing the film adaptation from a script written by Greg Rucka. It looks like a cool movie with some awesome action.
The movie is described as “a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.” It also stars Kiki Layne, Marwan Kenzari, LucaMarinelli, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, with Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Forever is harder than it looks. Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate & monetize their power by any means necessary.
