Oscar-winning actors Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) and Olivia Colman (The Favourite) have been cast in the French director Florian Zeller’s feature adaptation of the hit stage play The Father.

Hopkins will play the title role, the father of Colman’s character, who is described as “a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Colman). Yet such help has become essential, following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner. As Anne’s father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and reality itself.”

The 2012 play was written and directed by Zeller, and the screenplay was co-written by Zeller and Christopher Hampton.I think this sounds like a totally interesting and relatable story that can span the range of emotions that deal with aging, and evolving parent/kid relationships. Plus you can’t go wrong with these two actors. The movie is in pre-production and is set to hit screens sometime next year.
